Advanced Member Gary Dave Posted February 25, 2020 Advanced Member Report Share Posted February 25, 2020 Using: 4.9.17 on Gloss/Metalness Workflow Maybe I'm just not understanding how this works, but I'm pretty sure I've used it in the past. I have a paint layer with greyscale values. I right click this layer and use the "Color to Glossiness" option, but my gloss channel remains pure black. I can just import this greyscale texture as a glossiness map and do it that way, but that's sort of a 1-way street. I much prefer to tweak spec values in photoshop, but 3dc's spec layers are blank, which is why I prefer to start with black/white texturing. Carlosan
Hi Testing 4.9.26 I found it broken too. Reported
Member Dextra Visual Posted February 26, 2021 Member Report Share Posted February 26, 2021 I am finding this too. When I add a new black/white gloss texture it does nothing. It is all matt. I have existing textures that will break if I update the gloss material with the exact same file. Very strange.
Member walter_sullivan Posted November 5, 2021 Member Report Share Posted November 5, 2021 Same here, still. I forgot to paint along my gloss and vaguely remembered to have seen this in the past somewhere. I discovered it being in the menu when right clicking a layer. Clicked on it, but nothing happens It seems currently it does nothing. Would be nice if it was functioning (jus nitpicking :P ) ... but as it is there... it is tempting to wanna use it But I understand there are probably more important things in progess. Advanced Member Yousung Posted November 5, 2021 Advanced Member Report Share Posted November 5, 2021 (edited) After testing... For this feature to work, I have confirmed that the Glossiness channel must be set to 'On' at the time of painting to work. If it was painted with 'Off' state, there is a problem that it will not work even if you turn it 'On' later. I think it's definitely a bug. + Textures - Adjust - invert glossiness also same issue + Layers - Copy channels (RGB to glossiness) also same issue + Layer Blending - Additional glossiness also same issue + Layer Blending - Additional Metalness also same issue Edited November 5, 2021 by Yousung
Advanced Member Yousung Posted November 5, 2021 Advanced Member Report Share Posted November 5, 2021 (edited) This post was recognized by Carlosan! Yousung was awarded the badge 'Helpful' and 1 points. OK, here's a little trick. 1. Select the color channel area with Freeze - Freeze Transparent Pixels. 2. Turn off the Color and Depth channels. 3. After turning on only the Glossiness channel, set the Roughness to 100% and then use the Fill tool set to Fill w/ color. 4. Glossiness channel will be added to the painting area. 5. Now try using Color to glossiness again. Edited November 5, 2021 by Yousung
