New Member deflix Posted June 1, 2020 New Member Report Share Posted June 1, 2020 Hi, I'm new to the program and am trying to import an object through Sculpt. The object appears with vert colours derived from the textures but they do not correspond to the uv layout, i.e. they are broken. If I import the same Obj through Paint the UVs look correct. Is this a known bug, or is there a solution? The Obj has all its textures and a mtl file. cheers! Felix

New Member deflix Posted June 1, 2020 Author New Member Report Share Posted June 1, 2020 Hi many thanks i already followed that. The imported model has broken vertex colours, why is this? I need to see what i'm doing when i am sculpting. Am i missing some step when importing the Obj, such as manually importing the MTL file separately? cheers, felix
Carlosan
If you export as .ply and import without voxelization -on Surface mode- everything will be ok
New Member deflix Posted June 1, 2020 Author New Member Report Share Posted June 1, 2020 Hi Many thanks again for your help - yes the ply brings the vert colours in perfectly - does the OBJ importer not work in that respect? Be good to know, because in that tut you sent me it appears to work. Cheers, Felix
philnolan3d
OBJs work fine, you just have to check the box "import without voxilization" in the Import options. I actually just did it last night.
Advanced Member sprayer Posted June 2, 2020 Advanced Member Report Share Posted June 2, 2020 If i am not mistaken Obj do not store vert color only textures coordinates and material, also no bones.
philnolan3d
Oh maybe I misread. I thought we were talking about UV textures. Yes, that's right OBJ does not store vertex colors.

Reality Capture provides a checkbox to enable them.......(some platforms do extend OBJ functionality) This thread seems be a good one, although its Blender specific. I wonder if anyone here has managed to get it to work with 3DC? - https://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/90890/how-to-display-and-use-vertex-color-from-obj-model
