Assigning Materials to imported vertex colours

Hi…In some texturing applications, it is possible to assign materials based on vertex colours. Essentially using the vertex colours as a color ID mask. You would use a colour picker that would reveal your colour mask, and once a colour has been selected, the smart material would fill the area of the vertex colour.

This would be a great addition to the paint room toolset, maybe best as a layer based tool? Or a fill tool option?
