Masking & Hiding

Hi there, trying to come across to 3D Coat from ZBrush, but the masking and hiding geo options need improving for sure:

  • Need option to hide a portion of a mesh in Vox mode (that doesn't require us creating a new object in the outliner and then hiding it! - this is too slow for sculpting workflows)
  • Masking (freeze) needs to work in Vox.
  • Have a simple shortcut for Masking (Ctrl + LMB - like zbrush.  Masking is such an important part of sculpting fast and fluid, that it needs to be part of general sculpting, similar to holding shift for smooth)

An example of this is a simple bust.  I need to push the inside of the throat backwards, but I need to hide the bottom jaw first or mask it out.  Vox masking (freezing) doesnt work properly, so I have to hide the lower jaw.  The only option I have is Vox Hide and create a new object in the outliner from the hidden mesh - which is too slow and unintuitive.

its not as fast as zbrush but you can use a tool called "surface hide"

its hidden in the submenu of the freeze tool or you can find it using space+S and its the last row

you can use this tool with lasso ,curves or even painting and to unhide theres a hotkey "ctrl+x"

however it hides it but it still interacts with sculpting which after checking this tool out more closely seems pointless and its essentially hiding the texture not the mesh but if it helps its there

Thanks Elemeno for the reply - I guess it kind of does something but it still doesn't fully work as intended.  And yes like you said, it still interacts - we need a proper freeze option for vox.
