Easier to use the node wrangler way. Question is there a way to see what bugs Andrew is working on with 2024 24 or over all?

I just noticed when using open in external app and in export objects & textures and using the default with Export constructor checked. The displacement map is exported as a .png without any displacement or bump. When turning off the Export constructor checked off and picking the displacement map box the export is a .bmp with displacement. Why is this? Wouldn't you want the correct displacement when exporting in default?

Blender AppLink fixed (for 4.2)
Fixed problems when some customers was not able to run 3DC.
This happened due to Visual Studio update that happened after the Windows reinstall. Newer version broken all. It took several days of hard work to understand the reason.

so far works! Thanks from my side too!

It seems to even work in the Blender 4.3 Alpha after adding the necessary files into the addons_core path of Blender 4.3 - following the manual instructions from 3DCoats App link popup.

I usually don't export mesh back into blender if I do I use export mesh and textures as an object. Everything works including size.

But using the open in external app the object gets exported as .fbx file and the size is out of control. Using export units and apply scale doesn't seem to help.

Is this normal? I don't recall this problem in the older version V49.

App still isn't working correctly. I went back to my old windows 7. Using 3dcoat V49 and Blender 2.8. 

Current 3dcoat and Blender and Windows 11

Does not work in Blender for the following Microvertex and PTEX painting. It doesn't work with much below these on blender pull down menu. 

I cannot export files out of 3dcoat using the above programs. I tried exporting as .obj. When using Micro or PTEX exporting textures there is no depth even unchecking export constructor.

3dcoat will not export correct object size.

Older Version 3dcoat V49 and Blender 2.8  and Windows 7

Using 3dcoat V49 and Blender 2.8 everything worked. And you could export object to size correctly without trickery. Both Microvertex and PTEX exported with depth.

I didn't  check anything below the blender menu after PTEX

My old windows 7 system is really corrupted but the older versions worked.

Has anyone else confirmed this?

EDIT New version does export object but its size is huge. Not clean like the older version.

It's very inconsistent on my end. Half the time it works and then the other half, it doesn't. Not really useable at this point. I sent Andrew a long video bug report, but don't know if he is willing to watch it.

Does not work even setting export units. The object comes in huge. If you do PTEX the object its really jaggy in Blender so mesh density is also incorrect. I dont know whats happening to UV or Auto retopo using the app. If you export out of Blender as object and import into 3dcoat do the work and back flow into Blender size and mesh is correct. 

Older versions as I said before work even without setting export units. The only area I use is the painting, this I can export the textures through the app, I uncheck the export mesh.

PBR materials is also broken this I do use.

lol I send a cube 2mm/sq. I send out of 3dcoat with mm checked. the cube I receive is 3818 Meters/sq. Setting the export size out of 3dcoat to Meter I get 3.82 Meters/sq ? Weird.

 

Edit even just importing a sq 2mm it exports at 3.82 m and rotates x by 90.

Reset all of 3dcoat? I get this on a fresh install.

Ok fixed the size issue. Result of resetting default made no difference. I went to preferences, to viewport then clicked Used fixed screen scale. Applied. New scene back to preferences viewport unclicked fixed scene scale. Objects now export to scale into blender. I don't know why it works it does for me anyway.

Resetting defaults after this screws up the scale again. 3dcoat issue?

Next issue is when using Microvertex or PTEX the mesh is not imported into blender. In 3dcoat you need to click on output mesh and save as an .obj file. Then import .obj into Blender. I dont think it should work this way. Someone verify? I dont model in 3dcoat so its not an issue for me.

I am trying to build it that as community extension following the Blender extension docs, but cant get it working.

Hi Carlosan! No, the tex.py is handling the texture import, while texVR.py is there for "factures" import. (The mac Os line is there to make it work on that system too. It is not one of the edited lines). I have tested successfully on Windows 10.

Okay lets move to github, good idea.

Blender export app

My short term fix on correcting size has gone. 3dcoat is back exporting huge files. Send a 2m Sq and get back this. 3818 m Sq.

Exporting to and from with a obj file Blender reads 3.82 on return.

Measuring the object in 3dcoat it is 2m Sq.

Didnt make in difference. Again Sometimes but not all the times the size is correct when using export object and textures and when using an .obj file it will work but now never using the app now. 

If the size comes in close I can resize in blender but if the file comes in huge resize wont work. I'm using this on a new Dell precision running windows 11 pro 23H2

When I use the app this obj size is good in 3dcoat. I measured it. Using the open in external app or using export object and textures the size is incorrect.  Export object and textures is a 3dcoat operation not app. And it exports wrong object size. 

Import into 3dcoat as an obj file. The size in 3dcoat is correct. Using Export object and texture to file then import that object into blender the size is still incorrect. I believe this is a 3dcoat operation not the App.

I dont know, I got it to work for a while then I did some tutorials on UV and Auto retopo and Im back to wrong size. I have no Idea where that 3.82 or 3818 size comes from.

Ive even done fresh install on both 3dcoat and blender. I wont though do a fresh install on windows over this. All of my other programs are working correctly.

Edit: Using Blender 3.6 When using open in external app and get back in Blender which was sent (2mm/sq) comes back at least in a 2. Either 20m or .02m but never the right size no mater what unit you use. Export object and textures from 3dcoat the return size value is still 3.82.

Its broken (the normal state of 3d-coat features it seems). Blender 4.2 using the 'fix' for the new extension stuff (latest 3d-coat)

For certain simple meshes it can't roundtrip. Just take a mesh, export as for uv-Mapping, in 3dcoat import it and then Open in External App. In Blender Get back.

Totally broke on Blender 4.2.3 LTS. Is there a new app somewhere?

performig any operation ?

I tested v.30 and Blender 4.3.0 and found it working as expected

My version (attached) is located into

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\4.3\extensions\user_default\io_coat3D

any reference on scripts/addons folder was deleted
