3DCoat 2025 development thread

This thread is devoted to the 3DCoat development process. 3DCoat 2025 development discussion continues there.

The temporary license for anyone who wants to test, but has not bought a license:

 3DCoat_community_01_05_25.license    - valid till 01 May 2025

The links to download:

Windows builds are compiled and uploaded completely automatically.
- If I feel that I made risky changes, I mark build as [beta]. Not recommended for use in production environments.
- If I feel that build is essentially stable and good, I put it into the community downloads.

Refresh this page to see the changes.

ATTENTION: 3DCoat-2021.51 and 3DCoatTextura-2021.51 are the last builds which support macOS 10.13 and macOS 10.14. Starting from 3DCoat(Textura) 2021.54 the executable bundle requires macOS 10.15 and above. This is done because Apple has implemented full C++17 support only starting from macOS 10.15. Xcode gives the error "XXX is unavailable: introduced in macOS 10.15", where "XXX" is some feature(s) from C++17 which we are using under Windows.

Changelog (in comparison to 2021.02):

[if the build was re-uploaded for some reason then lines above the latest version number will appear. It means that changes are included in the re-uploaded build, but not included in the initial one. If those changes are important for you, just re-download and install even with the same version number.]

A development release is a release that shows work in progress, and gives the community the opportunity to detect problems early and report them. 
It is an unstable version and we do not recommend using it in production.
Use it because you want to help improve 3DCoat by reporting bugs.

Hey Congrats to first 2025 beta! :good2: Something to tryout, nice!! 

Nodebaking is working. Thank you! -I like the new NodeEditor!

-the Shader Panel in the Sculptroom makes strange Previews if updated with rmb.

Intersection Curve finally! nice. in this context: Simplfy Curve command: it deletes point from the last, when i tried. better try keep details while removing near double points.

-Python:  Working Plane Dialog has all the same IDs for all 3 or four points. Overwriting X when you want to set the others. The most superb option would be a direct python command: coat.setworkplane(Type, 3vec.., enable=bool).

-Curve.Points.getselected() returning the IDs of selected points

@Andrew Shpagin Hey, can you guys change/fix behaviour of vox layer tool when there are couple objects in the scene and with ignore backfaces on it still counts secondary object, even if ghosted. It's pretty annoying behaviour and it makes working on more complexe scenes very hard.

Also, maybe some work on Curve tool, especially on the behaviour when placing points of the curve is quite tedious, because the tool can pick points that are on the other side of the sculpt.

Overall, Curve Tool could get some love in terms of performance and control, as with even remotely detailed mesh it gets hard to control. Maybe there is better option to make quality ropes, chains and other stuff like that, which I don't know about?

Oh, one thing about tools in Retopo Room, Select tool for example - it doesn't remember selection mode. When I choose rectangle selection and the switch to Sculpt room and go back to Retopo, it switches to default "pen selection" mode.

This message means that Python modules are being installed that depend on some extensions that you have enabled. This usually takes a few seconds at normal internet speed. Please show me what the window asking to update Python looks like (there shouldn't be such a window)? And please also check what extensions you have enabled in the Extensions window. 

Perhaps deleting the python folder from the 3dcoat folder in documents will help.(In this case, Python and dependent modules will be automatically reinstalled.)

old folder C:\Users\<username>\Documents\3DCoat\python-3.8.10 = 700MB
new folder C:\Users\<username>\Documents\3DCoat\python-3.8.10 = 250MB

difference => folder C:\Users\user\Documents\3DCoat\python-3.8.10\Lib\site-packages

 

after delete the old folder

Can you go to the GEOMETRY menu > Uncheck INCREMENTAL RENDER and test it again? I think it is possible that this is just a display glitch and not necessarily a real mesh breakage.

- Will be nice to disable any extra lighting that interacts with the mesh besides the matcap information (mimic zbrush lighting).

This is because of the new StemCell Certification feature. It needs to be disabled in the Render settings.

A future request.
When I save the range of the Pose tool to a layer, the gizmo gets reset.
I think it would be more useful if the Pose tool could save the gizmo position as well.

Hey, thanks! Since most of the users here are artists, could you explain what advantages we’ll get from rewriting the 3DCoat interface in Python? I can imagine that external developers will now be able to customize the interface, but what else can we expect?
