any triangles completely breaks the hybrid

With such a topology, a smart hybrid is pointless.

all the edges disconnect and end up destroying the mesh

In most cases, to create a sculpt mesh that can be worked with, you need to use the Quadro option and apply welding.

Hello!

I previously wrote about this issue, but unfortunately, it still persists in version 2025.08. When using the 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse in 3DCoat, there is unstable camera behavior. After launching the program, navigation works correctly, but once a brush is switched, the camera may suddenly snap to the center point between the X, Y, and Z axes and become stuck. The only way to restore control is to restart the program. This bug is intermittent: sometimes everything works fine, and other times the camera freezes right away. Before locking up, the camera often jumps sharply to the center, though it doesn’t always get stuck immediately. The issue has been observed in versions 2024.30 and 2025.01–2025.03, and now confirmed again in 2025.08.
Driver version: 3DxWare 10.9.5.693.

do you have multiple screens?

not sure if this is a bug or if its the use of the tool

if its the use of the tool i thought it averaged the normal selected and offset that.

also after i made the offset i used ctrl+z and it crashed , i sent a crash report

smart offset next to a right angle or any angle thats above 70 will tear the mesh ,

even though the smart mesh looks like it have the same amount of topology , it doesnt because smart offset adds extra subds to that affected area , so converting back to sculpt or poly model requires extra time to weld vertices ,add edges etc....

wait!

the smart offset tool could have been better implemented using poly modelling , by selecting the affect area you want to manipulate use the tool but add proportional editing so it accounts for any right angles or sharp edges

would you be able to add that tool to poly modelling? plus this way it wouldnt break the model  or need topology restrictions and converting to sculpt would be one click and not convert to low poly , fix the low poly and then send to sculpt room...

You can't use the tools Offset and Alignment for this case.

This is not solid modeling, unfortunately.

See please video.
The offset works better in depth.
But still, this case is not good for surface modeling.
It is not a rigid body.
Should be more resistant to crashes.

i noticed when you converted from hybrid to polys that the bevel lost its shape , in theory hybrid should always have pure quads but the poly mesh had triangles in it and at the top?
