Hello,

3DCoat 2025 is coming out soon, and Linux is still on 2024.06 (while Windows is on 2024.31)

Can we expect a 3DCoat 2024.31 for Linux?
I know that some difficult back-end/porting stuff is happening and I understand that it takes time.

But even if it isn't finished until 2026, I want to get the 12-months of updates for the 2024 cycle, since I paid for them.

I think Linux will gain users as Windows 11 is not supported on a lot of otherwise still-very-good computers.

Thanks!

I have re-uploaded "3DCoat 2025.01" for Linux:
https://pilgway.com/~sergyi/links-Linux.html
Only one file has changed: 3DCoat-2025.01/LinuxLibs/libfbxsdk.so
To make FBX export/import work in your existing "2025.01", you can download the updated archive and copy only the file "libfbxsdk.so" from the downloaded version into the already used "2025.01". The new "libfbxsdk.so" is bigger than the old one.

it looks like the 2025.01 pre-release has fixed the issues that plagued the 2024 release cycle. Any chance you could release that as the final 2024 version for linux? I don't think it is fair that I should have to pay for a 2025 upgrade to access the updates between 2024.06 and 2025.01.

I am a huge fan of 3D Coat, but since I can't even use 2024.06 on the latest Ubuntu release (24.04 LTS), it's not really any good to me without the fixes. Using the distrobox workaround is far too cumbersome and I don't want to have to use it.

The Linux build didn't get even a single update during this time (it released at 2024.06, I bought it during the release sale). And anyone who made the mistake of updating their Ubuntu during the year can't even use the build that was released! So please give use a build or extend our licenses until one is released.
Thanks!
I don't think what I am asking is unreasonable.

@Carlosanthanks for the reply, I think I was writing my second post while you were posting that!

edit: I should also make it clear that the license-complaint is in the 2025.01 version that works. so unfortunately, it doesn't help people who haven't upgraded to 2025 yet (and I don't even think 2025 is out yet, for that matter).

I'm bumping this topic again because even if I use the distrobox workaround to run 3D Coat, it crashes and doesn't work.

the 2025.01 version works -- BUT I CAN"T EVEN UPGRADE MY LICENSE TO USE IT!!

so now I have a nearly finished project that I can open in the 2025.01 version - but can't export - and I can export it in the 2024 version -- but it crashes when it opens due to a bug that was fixed sometime during the 2024 series.

As it stands today, on April 15 2025, 3D Coat is simply not usable on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.

At this point I would happily pay for the upgrade - I love 3D Coat! But I can't even do that, and it is frustrating.

I have investigated the online activation source code for quite some time now and don't understand why it crashes under macOS/Linux. Therefore, licensing using a downloaded license file from the site is the way to go under macOS/Linux.

Use temporary license to finish your work. Hope it help

3DCoat_community_01_05_25.license 231 B · 68 downloads     - valid till 01 May 2025
