philnolan3d
You may not know it but if you have an nVidia 8800 GTS you also have a Quadro. I just briefly heard about this soft-mod but it supposed to give a big improvement for 3D apps. Here's a couple of tutorials. Do it at your own risk of course, but I understand its fairly safe. http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=539&pgno=0 http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33898714 Quote Link to comment https://3dcoat.com/forum/index.php?/topic/3274-softmodding-an-nvidia-8800-gts/ Share on other sites

philnolan3d
I don't know, I only have an 8800 GTS so I didn't look at others. That first link does say that GeForce hardware is identical to Quadro. He didn't specify which GeForce. Advanced Member geo_n Posted August 2, 2009 Advanced Member Share Posted August 2, 2009 a friend did that with his 6600gt agp card I think but it didn't make a difference since he was using lw 8.5 that time. LOL! Quote Link to comment https://3dcoat.com/forum/index.php?/topic/3274-softmodding-an-nvidia-8800-gts/#findComment-25514 Share on other sites

That first link does say that GeForce hardware is identical to Quadro. He didn't specify which GeForce. It depends on your graphic cards GPU. Here is an other short description: Soft Modding 8800GTS It's also possible with older cards. But in newer ones NVIDIA prevented soft modding by laser cutting their chips I've heard... I have soft modded my 8800GTS to Quadro FX 4600. It speeds up OpenGL performance in some (not all) applications. In Cinebench I will get 6500 points in OpenGL bench instead of 5500 with original driver. But unfortunately I didn't notice any speed enhancements in 3DC... philnolan3d
Unfortunately I tried following some of the directions I found (they are also in your link, Cuffins) but it didn't work out for me, the file in the Quadro driver was different from how they described it. I guess it's no big deal, I wasn't sure if I wanted to do it or not anyway.
