lately ive been having lots of issues with 3dcoat , and after a year of these things not working , i decided to delete everything , anywhere 3dcoat lived got deleted and i done a complete fresh install ,

now all features work correctly , all brushes and tools work as they should , performance has got alot better even x2 higher poly sculpting .

so if youre getting issues , maybe a fresh start is what it needs

That's interesting. I was having issues recently, too, and wondering if it is something to do with my system (AMD CPU and the Multi-threading in 3DCoat uses Intel Thread Building Blocks, which had been known in the past to hinder the performance of AMD CPU's when their compiler is used). Andrew said most of the issues I reported, he cannot reproduce, so it's good to know you found a solution. I will try the same.

Done that not so long ago and didn't see any difference in performance or overall behaviour of the app.

One thing, though, I think that Windows 11 adds to the mixture and 3DC performance was better on Windows 10.

4.9 had the fastest performance in sculpting , i know andrew was looking into it

Been playing around with 3DC, simultaneously monitoring VRAM usage and I think 3D-Coat needs some optimization, especially with switching between Render room and other rooms.

So, the sculpt I've been working on had something around 60 millions of "polygons"(multiple pieces, not one big object). Initial VRAM usage was below 4GB(3,3 - 3,6) and it stayed on that level for the most part, but... when I start switching between Sculpt room and Render room(which I do freqently), VRAM usage goes up, which is expected, but memory isn't freed after going back to Sculpt room and its usage is piling up with every Render room switch. After some time, VRAM usage reached 9GB and can go even higher and that's a really bad management of sytem resources, that could be used elsewhere.

Tested on 2025 and 2026 versions, but I think it goes way back.

Without optimization and with upcoming GPU accelerated features it might be a huge problem.

youre right , over time switching between rooms cause vram usage to go up , but it also climbs up while youre sculpting too ,  i started with 4 objects 66 million in total , and it was 2.2gb of vram after roughly 30 minutes the vram usage was 4.5gb so that probably explains why it feels like its getting worst as you sculpt

need a polish brush that works properly for polishing hard surfaces

When in Surface Mode, or in Voxel mode while using Surface Brushes, there is a SHIFT and CTRL SHIFT menu option called ANTI-BUMP. I meant to make a video showing how that is actually a type of Polishing brush as it tries to preserve the broader shape of the Surface, while "polishing" (removing) the smaller bumps and divots. Give that a try if none of the Polish or trim brushes work well enough for you.

antibump just absolute destroys anything on the mesh ... not what i was looking for

I have some hard polish preset, probably from the forum. I can't find the original download link, but I can send it to you for testing. It works nicely for the most part.

There is a lot of stuff going on under the hood that uses resources in the wrong way and I don't see a point for that, as there are no performance benefits.

That has not been my experience at all. For smaller bumps and surface deviations, it works perfectly for me. I usually pick the sharp falloff brush alpha (3rd to the right of the Default alphas) and it works really well for polishing the surface. Can you screen record how you are using it and how it peforms?
