Advanced Member Spiraloid Posted October 8, 2010 Advanced Member Share Posted October 8, 2010 Greats Folks, I posted this around a few places because I think it's really cool. I thought some people here might be interested in case you folks haven't heard that Valve has created an IN-GAME store that will allow any 3D artists to submit an item for sale to players.... if this catches on, I could see this being the way lots of 3D artists sell there works online, expanding the games and worlds they are already fans of. if you want to learn more about how to submit a TF item to the store or the community, check out. http://www.teamfortress.com/mannconomy/ http://www.teamfortress.com/contribute/ I wish this had existed when I was starting out. -bay raitt

Advanced Member geo_n Posted October 28, 2010 Advanced Member Share Posted October 28, 2010 Looks interesting. But the market for online 3d sales is so different from 5 years ago. These days high quality models that take +20 hours to make sell for 30US and the company takes 50% of that. I used to sell them for 200US but since the other people dont uee genuine software they can afford to lower their prices. Price undercutting has been going on for years. The bad part is new online stores are popping up making even more undercutting common. One company can't make a standard pricing scheme when another company is selling the same models from an author much cheaper.
Advanced Member Roger_K Posted November 17, 2010 Advanced Member Share Posted November 17, 2010 the nice thing about this is its only ever going to be 1 place. and i think the content must be approved before submission. id imagine that will prevent a lot of the problems you describe. what amazes me is the prices. 10 quid for a low poly hat!! Did you guys know that the artists who made the polycount pack got between 30 - 50k in royalties in the first 2 weeks.
