Advanced Member Garagarape Posted July 1, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted July 1, 2011 Removed the bad, bad, bad pillars (#284) Its kind of empty now. What about a wood scaffolding? Some tapestries?
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted July 1, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted July 1, 2011 This view is probably better. Last one is too centered and the fov was too wide. May be need to be more close to the ground + focus on the ceiling?
Advanced Member michalis Posted July 1, 2011 Advanced Member Report Share Posted July 1, 2011 A perfect place for a sculpture exhibition Joking (but not really) Relief looks marvelous now
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted July 2, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted July 2, 2011 Thank you Michalis. I added a scaffolding. I guess the picture is more "readable" like that. Fallen ceiling parts + more wrecks + skybox and texture work (only Ao + Nm and a WIP specular now) and that will be almost done. I don't know what there will be in the center. Yes, Laocoon style sculpture exhibition could be fine. Hope there will be time for that.
Advanced Member michalis Posted July 2, 2011 Advanced Member Report Share Posted July 2, 2011 Much better! You're using a second cold light, make it as soft (casted shadows) as possible. It suppose to be an indirect light.
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted July 2, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted July 2, 2011 Yes you're right. I found it strange to have shadows here. Don't know how to change this yet. May be two lights located in the same place. One for very slight shade and the other for tint? Can't lower the shade without losing the blue feel. Have to tweak this. Advanced Member michalis Posted July 2, 2011 Advanced Member Report Share Posted July 2, 2011 What renderer? There must be a way to soften the shadows. If you use an emitter or similar then change the size of this. I hate renderers. LOL. Just boring. But in the end you may have a beautiful image. Advanced Member Britain Posted July 2, 2011 Advanced Member Report Share Posted July 2, 2011 Really Nice, but I would think that the arch structure would be built of blocks of some shape, the hole in the ceiling looks like cast concrete. Advanced Member Garagarape Posted July 3, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted July 3, 2011 Yeah, renderers may be for lazy guys like me. On the other hand it provides really nice effects that would be hard to simulate in Maya or other app. Don't lose your time hating them, could be bad for your health Thank you for pointing out the concrete aspect of the hole. I'll see if I can fix that. May be fake god-rays coming out of it would keep of figuring out that it lacks details (I'm definitely lazy). Advanced Member Garagarape Posted July 7, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted July 7, 2011 Thanks Michalis, Yes, the godray effect is not good at all in my scene. I guess it would be better to tweak lighting a little bit more.

Advanced Member michalis Posted July 14, 2011 Advanced Member Report Share Posted July 14, 2011 God rays! I never quite understood why we call them so. But you're the god here so... Well done!
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted July 14, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted July 14, 2011 Thanks Geothefaust, thanks Michalis. "God rays", yeah, more poetic than things we hear all day long at work: quadratic, quaternion, and other barbarian names... Could call it "light curtain", that would be less religious. But some would imagine aurora instead. Is it hot in Greece? I remember a summer in Athens with 40 degrees even protected by building shades. Definitely prefer Volos golf and its clear water. 38 degrees here in Tokyo. Too much concrete and air conditioners, no trees enough.

Advanced Member Garagarape Posted July 19, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted July 19, 2011 Here is a refreshing theme : Scuba-diving. Don't know if it will be a boy or a girl. Let's just build the equipment first. And make it blue or pink then.
Advanced Member Scott Padbury Posted July 19, 2011 Advanced Member Report Share Posted July 19, 2011 Added arches on the side of the tunnel + a relief done in 3d Coat in twenty minutes. It is very rough but it may suit this kind of place. I have not been back in a while that is really cool! Nice job..
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted July 24, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted July 24, 2011 Thanks Scott. Do you sculpt something these days? I try to make a diver, little by little. Here are the "fins": Probably enough to dive, but I'll try to make the full equipment (Air tank, stabilization pack, etc...).

Advanced Member Garagarape Posted July 27, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted July 27, 2011 Thanks. It is all 3dCoat made. It is only done with inverted "Grow" tool + Booleans (substract this shape from this layer). Other users also use this technique for hard-surface modeling. Trust me, it is fun (more fun than Nurbs, though you can't change the shapes by moving curve's points...) HAving a hard time with the stabilization pack... I suspect that currently 3Dcoat's hard surface capabilities is the most underrated feature of the program.

Advanced Member Roger_K Posted August 1, 2011 Advanced Member Report Share Posted August 1, 2011 Roger_K, what do you mean by chrome a bit? Is it to tweak specular? Thanks for watching! Chromatic Abberation. the colour fringing
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted August 5, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted August 5, 2011 Chromatic Aberation, ok. I used this parameter, but it was probably not strong enough. There is so many things to learn... I downloaded UDK weeks ago, but still didn't find time to give it a shot. Little progress on the diver's equipment:
