Advanced Member Garagarape Posted May 21, 2012 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 21, 2012 Hey Artman! Yes Dark Crystal was great. Those puppets were magic! There is something in this movie that would be hard to reproduce even with today's CG techniques. Hope you are OK in Quebec (listening to "Les cowboys fringants" right now ). Hope that students will get what they need and calm down a bit. Take care.

Thanx ,Im very much ok.Its nothing comapred to Greece or places where people deal with religious tensions or real economic turmoil. What they want is University for free or a freeze in actual school fees and I don't think they are gonna get either. Things are very safe here unless you go to an actual manifestation, its probably hard for those who lives very close to manifestations trajectories but for where I am its just good ol' summer time . They are not gonna calm down because governement jsut voted a special law to forbid manifestations so things are gonna get more violent I think. But again compared to what is happening in the world right now its really not that big.... "Les cowboys fringants" are great!
Advanced Member Jake_H Posted May 22, 2012 Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 22, 2012 Love where you are going with the skeksis! One of my favourite films as a kid.
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted May 22, 2012 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 22, 2012 Jake_H, Thanks! People drawing and working in CG world definatlely have to keep part of their childhood somewhere (in my case the kid part may be bigger than the adult one...). Advanced Member michalis Posted May 22, 2012 Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 22, 2012 Great last one posts Garagarape! I missed some of them.
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted May 22, 2012 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 22, 2012 Thanks Michalis! I try to do my best. But still it is Brian Froud character. Didn't torture my brain to find a good design. May be the shapes are too soft and need more sharpen on main volumes. The clothes and armour will be hard work (probably on different scenes?):

Advanced Member chingchong Posted May 23, 2012 Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 23, 2012 yes indeed, that looks better than before did you up-res for that ?
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted May 24, 2012 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 24, 2012 Hi Chingchong! No, I didn't up-res between the last shot and the previous one. It's a X2 res. Just used the pinch stuff (the one in surface mode). I wonder if X2 is enough and if the whole character could be done in one scene. Probably have to try to add parts little by little to find the critical point.
Member Markus F. Posted May 24, 2012 Member Report Share Posted May 24, 2012 Nice Models Garagarape! Like the concept of your Indian Girl and how you bring it into 3D. The new Guy is also cool, good Sculpting! regards Markus
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted May 29, 2012 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 29, 2012 Thanks Markus! I wish I could make a realistic character as good as yours someday. Slow progress on the Skeksis:
Reputable Contributor digman Posted May 29, 2012 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted May 29, 2012 Really looking sharp... My favorite two brushes are CreaseClay and Surface mode pinch brush with remove stretching enabled. These two working together even on lower polygon meshes produce nice sharp edges. The new brush routine helps alot too...
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted May 29, 2012 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 29, 2012 Thanks Digman! Didn't know about those brushes. I'm gonna try them when back home.
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted May 29, 2012 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 29, 2012 Oh I see! Crease Clay behaves like did Sculptris. Adding density only where you paint. But it vanishes when back to voxels. Nice feature though. Thanks for the info.

Advanced Member Garagarape Posted June 1, 2012 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted June 1, 2012 "Trial by stone!" Ha ha, yeah. Probably one more reason to love sculpt I hope I'll manage to bring it to the end, with nice renders.
Taros
The last one looks really nice. Love it!
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted June 4, 2012 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted June 4, 2012 Thanks for your kind words Taros. I keep on blocking the character little by little, but I feel dizzy when thinking of all that is left undone. The "only chest sculpt" temptation is big... Advanced Member gbball Posted June 4, 2012 Advanced Member Report Share Posted June 4, 2012 Awesome bird thing! Is it from Dark Crystal?
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted June 4, 2012 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted June 4, 2012 Yep! It is Skekung, the garthim master. I don't have many photo references so the clothes stuff may be different. Anyway I think its ok if the Dark Crystal mood is kept.
Member Markus F. Posted June 8, 2012 Member Report Share Posted June 8, 2012 Great Progress, he's got a very strong presence even in this early stage. regards Markus
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted June 10, 2012 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted June 10, 2012 Thks! Trying to block the body using "cloth". Lacks a bit of volume.
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted June 16, 2012 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted June 16, 2012 Yep! I fear a little the work on torned clothes. Added arms and leaves. Almost all parts blocked. It's time to refine this all.
Contributor Tony Nemo Posted June 16, 2012 Contributor Report Share Posted June 16, 2012 How do you plan to topologize the inner parts of the garment?
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted June 16, 2012 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted June 16, 2012 With 3dCoat, of course! All the parts are separated on different layers. I'll try to switch some layers visibility off for the work to be easier. I don't plan on auto-retopoing it.
Advanced Member michalis Posted June 18, 2012 Advanced Member Report Share Posted June 18, 2012 It's gonna be a masterpiece!
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted June 24, 2012 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted June 24, 2012 Thank your for your kind words! Lets say the sculpt is done. There's a lot of differences if you compare it to the original puppet. First the head wasn't that big. There's also more ripped clothes and hairy areas on the original. I'll try to add a little flavor to the model by adding alpha-mask stuff for clothes and hair, but will be lazy on the head size problem. Lets polypaint + ritopo it!
