Any tips on how to paint a brick like texture to a cylinder shaped model?

The texture appears OK when I paint the front of the model (image #2) however when I turn the object to it's side to paint it the texture appears messed up (image #3)... I've tried this several times... Both using 3DC's auto mapping and using maps created using UV Mapper Classic...
