Reputable Contributor digman Posted July 8, 2011 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted July 8, 2011 It's been awhile since working in 3DCoat. Darn fun it is... I really like the resample for keeping the voxel count low as you work on the base model. Under 300,000 voxel count at present. It great for changing things at this stage. In little over an hour to be able to knock out the start of a dino is nice. I threw in a quick normal map to get a feel for possible skin tones. Lots more to refine of course in voxels, feet, teeth, muscles etc. I hope to find time to work on it some more...

Advanced Member Garagarape Posted July 9, 2011 Advanced Member Report Share Posted July 9, 2011 Hey Digman! it's been a while. You dinosaurs seem to laugh at each other. Hope we can see more soon.
Reputable Contributor digman Posted July 10, 2011 Author Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted July 10, 2011 Hey Digman! it's been a while. You dinosaurs seem to laugh at each other. Hope we can see more soon. They were laughing at me trying to model them... Here is the second pass. Bumped the resolution up to 1 millon voxels to start working on feet and little arms. Teeth soon...

Reputable Contributor digman Posted July 26, 2011 Author Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted July 26, 2011 Finally my time will be freeing up for about a month, I'm burning incense and making my prayers that it will be so... Manual retopo done for testing out in Messiah Studio. I got Messiah back on the front burner so I'm just checking out how the bone system works again... It is not a rig. Advanced Member Garagarape Posted July 27, 2011 Advanced Member Report Share Posted July 27, 2011 Ohhh! Very clean mesh wire, the animation must be fun! What about the texture? Will you finish it after the motion is done? Can't wait to see more.
Reputable Contributor digman Posted July 27, 2011 Author Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted July 27, 2011 Ohhh! Very clean mesh wire, the animation must be fun! What about the texture? Will you finish it after the motion is done? Can't wait to see more. Thanks, the mesh has minor problems like a pole on the arm elbow but good enough for testing. I will work between the two programs, adding details, texturing and working on learning the animation system in the coming month hopefully. The video is a little forward IK on the head and neck and Inverse IK on the tail plus some muscle bones to help the deforming of the mesh. It really is not a rig at this point. I using this model to learn on, though it is much fun to take a sculpt and then start to make it come alive... Oh yeah, he is toothless for now and the tongue is still in the shop... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBl1aUvVZFY
Reputable Contributor digman Posted July 29, 2011 Author Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted July 29, 2011 Some more learning today. Still seeing out things work out in Messiah. I brought Joe Cosmans Rigging 2 video today. Good Stuff... The video is just throwing some more bones and a few nulls controls. Nothing really planned out just see still how things work and No expressions yet which I will need to learn. The way Messiah is setup for creating animations really helps you to learn easier. Poor dino is still all gray... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkZ804XIXFw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bE8fkmkgeZc
Reputable Contributor digman Posted July 30, 2011 Author Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted July 30, 2011 Some texturing and displacement test in Messiah... Details and texturing in WIP state. I will have to rework the bones once I learn expressions... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2QqRb_BX6U
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted July 31, 2011 Advanced Member Report Share Posted July 31, 2011 Wow, great moves! Is Messiah that good? I've been struggling with animation in Maya (may be not enough...) without managing to skill up. I wonder if Messiah is more user-friendly. Looking at the interface it seems to be close to Xsi-Softimage. Great dino. I thought it would be more colorful. I don't know much about them though

Looking at the interface it seems to be close to Xsi-Softimage. Great dino. I thought it would be more colorful. I don't know much about them though I do like Messiah so far, Its seems to me easier than most animation software I tried out. My skill level is next to none but I have dabbled here and there. There is more colors on the dino now but is still very much a WIP. I been lazy and haven't made the teeth or eyes yet. My animation still looks like stop motion... I will have to figure out how better to use the curves in the graph editor. The video is before applying the newer displacement map and texture. The still picture is a Messiah render. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vp60KAVZfRI
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted August 7, 2011 Advanced Member Report Share Posted August 7, 2011 Digman, thanks for the reply. I'll have a try with Messiah when I manage to save time. There must be a trial version. Last animation is nice. I can imagine the dinosaur's heaviness when he walks. The left leg seem to go backwards in the begenning though; like he's going to move forward, but one leg do the contrary. Looking forward to seeing more. Reputable Contributor digman Posted August 8, 2011 Author Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted August 8, 2011 One more Messiah test. I started on the teeth, tongue and eyes to finish out the dino. Him looking toothless is really starting to look funny. Garagarape, I corrected the walk, thanks for the input... A composite video test Edit: Render was lit with a spherical probe but I added a light with a low setting to give more shadow to the dino. picture included

Advanced Member Garagarape Posted August 9, 2011 Advanced Member Report Share Posted August 9, 2011 Incorporate the dinosaur to a scene makes him even great. yes, next step is making him banging on the glass (interaction with objects). But that must be a hard work. I wouldn't dare. Great piece!
Advanced Member Scott Padbury Posted August 12, 2011 Advanced Member Report Share Posted August 12, 2011 Looking good Digman.. Garagarape, you will like Messiah, it is alot more user friendly then Maya.
Reputable Contributor digman Posted August 13, 2011 Author Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted August 13, 2011 Looking good Digman.. Garagarape, you will like Messiah, it is alot more user friendly then Maya. Thanks Scott and Garagarape. I'm starting to get some degree of knowledge in what I'm doing in Messiah, though I really am not out of first gear yet. The dino has a working mouth now with teeth, tongue and side mouth flaps. Everything in the mouth animates properly. That was some learning for me. Last Wip and pretty much everything needs more as work as I jumped around quite a bit from modeling, texturing and animating really with no plan except to teach myself Messiah Studio. The tail is kinda woky as It has motion dynamics tied to it and so far I not very good at it...

Advanced Member Garagarape Posted August 13, 2011 Advanced Member Report Share Posted August 13, 2011 Digman, Scott, Thank you for informations about Messiah. Just bought it! Now the problem will be to find time to learn
Reputable Contributor digman Posted August 19, 2011 Author Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted August 19, 2011 Wip low contast light renders The dino needs more than a GI shadow in image with more light. Compositing using Front map projection. foreground gog created using particles. GI plus noise reduction set at various settings. I got sidetracked and spent a few days learning more about Messiah's rendering engine.
