[Solved] Rotate symmetry or mirror copy

I would like to mirror copy one side of the lion face to the other. However the face is tilted to an angle. Is it possible to adjust the symmetry to a spicific angel so I could copy it to the other side or is there another way.

No, this is not possible. Best to do all symmetric modeling before "posing" your figure.

Yes it is possible and it is my favorite aspect of working in 3Dcoat.

In 3Dcoat each 'voxel layers' have their own transformable volume space ,transforming the volume space also transform the symmetry plane of that layer.

You can transfer any volume space to other volume spaces using the "move to" command from right click menu.

The transfered layer inherit automatically the symmetry plane of the target layer but.. it also inherit the voxel resolution

so you always must use "move to" to transfer volume of equal or higher resolution.Also it works in voxel mode not surface mode.

Here are the steps:

1-Use "clone space density" from rmb menu in voxtree on your lion sculpt

(you can make 2 clones so have a backup symmetry plane if you like).

2-Use transform tool to rotate and move the space density layer, positioning it's symmetry plane at the angle you want it.

3-On your original voxel layer use "move to" command from voxtree rmb menu and pick as target the space density layer you just reoriented.

Now you can use Sym copy command to mirror one side to the other

or (if you dont want to resym the whole sculpt)

you can duplicate the sculpt,flip it on x(rmb menu) and use Copy brush to transfer specific details to the other layer's side.

You can also use Voxlayer(LMB) -> To global space. First rotate your sculpt according x-axis(half and half) and

then press "to global space" and the symmetry plane will move inot position where it was before transforming.

There is button "reset space" in transform tool,it will rotate and move your layer back to its original position.Very useful.

But sometimes you have to press it many many times in order for it to work and sometimes it wont work at all.

artman Thank you, I will try it. I am finding 3d coat to be a very useful program. However I still haven't got used to sculpting in it yet.

You can also clone the original layer then flip X (or Y or Z, whichever to mirror it)

then rotate it into place, and then use the COPY tool to paint what you want from that...

you then forgo all the global space stuff...

you can even chop away all the stuff you know you won't need from the mirrored layer,

that makes it then even easier to position your flipped clone object... \

obviously you'll need to work the blend region by hand...

you can also make the original layer a semi-transparent material (about 60% opacity) so you can see where you're positioning the mirror as well...

just adding another way, nothing wrong with the above mentioned workflows... this one works for non-symmetrical copying as well.... copying modified pose feature etc...
