Advanced Member kirkl Posted November 24, 2011 Advanced Member Report Share Posted November 24, 2011 I have a flat surface with some dents. Some times ago I was able to choose less on heigh with "V" button inside of a dent and paint inside the dents only. Now it paints all over both dents and the flat surface without any respect to the dents. For prominent bumps it's still working with "more on height" so I am a bit confused. An ability to paint a surface with respect to its depth difference is a critical thing imo. Would be nice to have this ability not degraded but rather improved over what it was before. Javis
I can confirm this. On windows & mac. Build 3.7.01B. Also to add to that, more on height also is not working for me at all. It simply paints on everything or nothing, depending on the height setting.

It depenfs hew dents was created. If it is basic geometry it will not work of course. "Height" is what you painted on, not just geometry feature. I checked and "less on heights" works correctly - http://bit.ly/sOFz7U
Advanced Member kirkl Posted November 25, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted November 25, 2011 I found it actually works , just a bit different way than before. I used to pick height scale with "v" button and with negative value it works in dents only. Now it works in dents only with zero scale value of "less in heights". With negative values it doesn't paint anything, with positive - paints over both dents and flat surface. So it appears a bit confusing. Beside the preview (conditions) window doesn't work in per pixel mode ( it works ok in microvertex mode). Would be great to have it fixed. By the way, Andrew, I am curious why we don't have an option to retopo a voxel sculpt into a per pixel mode with a depth info(layer), only a normal map? I would prefer to have the same depth aware painting as it goes into microvertex mode. I feel per pixel mode works better and more smooth somehow. Would be nice to have an option to chose in between normal map and depth layer baked into per pixel mode.
