Member kadu3d Posted November 29, 2011 Member Report Share Posted November 29, 2011 Was just watching a podcast: making of a cover art for tomb raider -- 3DCoat was there!
Reputable Contributor AbnRanger Posted November 29, 2011 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted November 29, 2011 Good catch. I almost missed it the first time through. Looks like it was Visual Works in Japan that was working on the model.
philnolan3d
I saw this when it was first posted in January. 3DC is used in a number of big studios. Some friends in Hollywood and in a big game studio have confided in me that they use 3DC there unfortunately I've been asked to not mention the names of the studios. Reputable Contributor AbnRanger Posted November 29, 2011 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted November 29, 2011 Many studios let the modeler/sculptor and texture artists pretty much use whatever they want. It's just the animation, lighting, shading and rendering portion where they have to have a more restrictive pipeline. That means even huge game companies like Blizzard and Ubisoft likely have some artists that use 3D Coat somewhere in the process.
Reputable Contributor digman Posted November 29, 2011 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted November 29, 2011 3DCoat is a powerful piece of software, only natural that companies would use it as one of their tools for creating. Thanks for sharing the video...
