7.8 VoxTree Right Click Menu

There are many functions in the right click menu inside of the VoxTree. Some of them are unique to this menu, most however, are not. They are as follows:
Delete. With this command you can delete selected layer.
Add sub object. This command is equal to a simple pressing on the “+” icon near the layer’s name. It adds a layer that is parented to the current layer.
Rename. Type the name of the layer instead of “VolumeXX”.
Merge 3B file. Merge external .3b file (3DC’s native format) into scene.
Shader. Change shader. You can do it also in Shaders tab:
Edit shader setting. Edit custom shader’s parameters, if it has them.


Merge points cloud. Merge set of points as a sequence of a small spheres.
Merge object. Merge 3D object in .obj, .fbx, .lwo, .stl, .ply formats.


Export scene. Export scene as a set of separate objects.
Export object. Export current object.
Export pattern for merge. Export current object to be used as a pattern for merge object tool.
Export curve profile. Export current object as a profile for curve.
Clone. Clone and transform object.
Clone with symmetry. Clone with symmetry and transform.
Clone and degrade. Clone and decrease density twice.
Clone space density. Create space with identical density and transformation. It is important if you want to use copy tool without loosing quality. Create new space and use copy tool.
Decrease object 2X. Increase the selected object layer’s density twice.
Increase object 2X. Decrease the selected object layer’s density twice.
To global space. This will move the object to 0 on all axes. This is great for when you need to move something directly into the center of world space to allow for a more perfectly symmetrical object when you apply symmetry.

Extract skin:

Make hull using voxels (Extract skin). Make hull using voxel algorithm. It takes more time to calculate but works well for complex topology.
Make hull using surface (Extract skin). Make hull using surface extrusion. It is fast but can cause artifacts on complex topology.
Extrude. Extrude whole object. You also have to set extrusion parameter.
Transform. Transform whole object using special gizmo.
Apply axial symmetry. Apply axial symmetry of any order to the object.
Quadrangulate object. Quadrangulate object and drop to Retopo Mode.
Quadrangulate and paint. Quadrangulate and drop object to Paint Mode with microvertex painting regime.
Quadrangulate for per pixel painting. Quadrangulate and drop object to Paint Mode with per pixel painting regime.

A few things to note on the quandrangulation tools. It is a good idea to enable symmetry planes to force symmetry during quadrangulation. If object is not fully symmetrical the program will keep symmetry only whenever possible. If you do not like the auto retopologized mesh, you can always go to Retopo Mode to manually adjust the mesh to suit your needs.

Flip. You can flip the currently selected layer on any axis (X, Y, or Z).
Merge to. Merges a copy of the current layer to another layer.
Move to. Move the current layer to another layer.
Subtract from. Subtract object in the current layer from the object in another layer that you select. This is a very powerful function in 3D-Coat. It allows for boolean subtractions of one object layer from another.
Change parent. Change the current layer to another layer or the root.
