Non-destructive GPU node-based texturing – The 3DCoat Node System is introduced. No more limitations of classic pixel painting! Now you can create materials, masks, and effects using a visual editor (Node Editor). Any element, including rust intensity, base color, glossiness, or scratches, remains editable at any stage of your workflow. Change parameters and instantly observe the result on the 3D model in real time. The first video lesson on the basics of the new system is below , the rock texturing timelapse is here. Every parameter remains editable at any stage, with real-time previews directly on the 3D model.
High-performance GPU nodes – procedural effects, mathematical operations, and noise generators are dynamically compiled into optimized shaders and calculated directly on the graphics card. Under the hood of the new system, dynamic compilation of nodes into optimized shaders, based on NodeGraph Language (NGL), is working.
Texturing while sculpting – for the first time in the industry, the Node System works both with Per-Pixel Painting and as a shader system for sculpt objects. Materials can be previewed while sculpting. This allows you to sculpt your models while simultaneously previewing the material in real time, taking full advantage of the complete node-based texturing workflow—even before retopology or UV mapping.
3D lattice voxel structures for any 3D model – create complex internal geometries and volumetric lattice structures using voxel representations. This is especially useful for lightweight and durable 3D-printed parts, as well as detailed artistic patterns. A unique feature enables the creation of 3D lattice structures and other complex three-dimensional internal geometries for any 3D model. This functionality is especially valuable for engineering applications, where it can be used to generate advanced internal lattice structures for 3D printing. These structures help increase the strength of printed parts while reducing material consumption and overall weight. At the same time, the feature is equally useful for artistic workflows and digital sculpting, making it easy to create intricate volumetric patterns and highly detailed internal structures. Read more here .
Node-based procedural patterns for sculpting – generate complex shapes and volumetric patterns that would be difficult or impossible to create with traditional sculpting tools. Node-generated geometry can be converted into regular sculpt objects for further editing. With nodes, you can easily create volumetric and surface patterns. Once you apply the Pattern to Volume, the node-generated geometry is converted into a regular sculpt object for further editing.
Node-based materials, masks, modifiers, filters, and volumes – create procedural Smart Materials, realistic wear and dirt masks, geometry deformers, post-processing filters, and seamless volumetric textures. With nodes, you can create: Procedural Smart Materials ( NGMaterials ) that perfectly adapt to the curvature, shading (Ambient Occlusion), and other properties of your model; Procedural Masks ( NGMasks ) for generating realistic wear, dirt, scratches, etc.; Procedural Modifiers ( NGModifiers ) for procedural change of the shape or geometry of a model. In the code, they are often called “Deformers”; Procedural Filters ( NGFilters ), which store procedural post-processing filters. Unlike materials, which create new textures from scratch, filters take existing layer or object data, modify it, and return it; Volumetric Procedural Textures ( NGVolumes ). They are preset windows for working with volumetric (3D) materials and textures in 3D space, which guarantees the absolute absence of seams on any model.
30 material channels – the updated physically based material system supports 30 channels, including advanced light interaction and refraction properties for creating more realistic and physically complex surfaces. The 3DCoat render system supports an advanced physically based material (PBR/PBM) model. It includes not only standard channels butalso introduces a wide range of additional material channels, enabling the creation of physically complex materials with advanced light interaction and refraction effects to create the most realistic surfaces possible. The total number of all supported channels is 30. You can read more about them in the documentation, in the PBM Channels section.
Procedural material and mask library – We've also created a comprehensive library of built-in materials across a wide range of categories. It includes new and all legacy default Smart Materials, fully converted to the new node-based system. Fabric materials were 3D scanned by SCANIMAT. A library of built-in masks is also included. Simply select or create a material and apply any mask with a single click.
Quick Access toolbar search – The Sculpt and Modeling workspaces now feature a text-based search for tools in the Quick Access panel, making it much faster to find the tool you need.
Interactive node transform gizmo – Added the new inGizmoTransform node, which connects to the UVWTexture, TriPlanar, and FragCoord nodes to control position, rotation, and scaling of texture, 3D lattice, or procedural volumetric pattern.
Splitter tool – the new Splitter tool simplifies dividing a model into separate parts. Each resulting part is automatically placed on its own layer for easier organization and editing.
Lofted Surface for the On-Plane tool – create and edit lofted surfaces using curves, and then sculpt directly on the generated surface with voxel brushes.
Hybrid Mesh as a surface for the On-Plane tool – retopology meshes can now be converted into Hybrid Meshes and used as surfaces for voxel sculpting, opening new possibilities for controlled shape creation.
Hollow Box primitive – A new parametric geometric primitive representing a hollow box. The generator creates the shape procedurally from a set of parameters.
Parametric Hybrid Modeling Updated – Using three or two curves, you can create a parametric model of a complex shape. Changing the curves at points automatically modifies the model. The model can also be modified by moving the sensitive handles (grips) and by changing parameters in the dialog.
New Smart Hybrid primitives – Four Smart Hybrid Primitives have been created. Product Types: Body, Boat, Bottle, Conic. By changing these, you can create a wide range of different objects.
Group Tree in the Retopo and Modeling Rooms – The "Group Tree" system has been implemented in the Retopo and Modeling Rooms. The Object Tree in the Retopo and Modeling Rooms works in many ways similar to the Object Tree in the Sculpting Room. The Move, Rotate, and Scale tools manipulate a branch of child objects directly. You can also copy trees and branches of objects.
Pose tool improvements – The Pose tool has been expanded with new deformation modes, providing greater flexibility when posing and reshaping models. We've also added the ability to snap a mesh to an object's surface.
Curves tool improvements – the curve-bending algorithm has been improved for smoother and more predictable results.
Bevel improvements – A new Profile Shape option has been added to the Bevel tool in the Retopo and Modeling Rooms.
LWO3 import – 3DCoat now supports importing LWO3 files created in LightWave 3D.
GLB export – GLB export has been added to improve integration with Blender and other applications supporting the format.
Multiple other fixes, workflow improvements, and performance optimizations have also been implemented.
