  1. That looks like possible antialiasing artefact issues with your alpha, which I've had with very fine scratch alphas or even textures used in smart materials. It could be your texture map setup is too low a resolution for the alpha's "daintiness", and you might want to try and modify the original alpha artwork so that it's 'chunkier', and reimport it.

  2. Yes, I did, but it still only adds geometry even if I try to use some other brush. And the weirdness in the "Paint Room" remains a mystery as well...

edit: I think I have figured out what went wrong in the "Paint Room", this was a stupid NOOB error, not having tried 3d coat for so long rears its ugly head, I hadn't taken the "depth modulator" into account, but the problem in Voxel Sculpt persists, all brushes seem to give the same result.

Righto. Glad to see you got the problem sorted.

  3. Edit Smart Material and then immediately hitting 'Cancel' is deleting the smart material. Just lost my Default Material (which was very useful for decals). Tried it on another (dispensable) smart material and that one went bye-bye too.

    :excl:

Can anyone advise on restoring the Default Material (found under the 'default' tab) without a reinstall?

  4. I've managed to cleanup edges in InstantMeshes by going back and stroking the edges after examining the mesh extract. No need to start from scratch and almost immediate feedack. The occasional tris don't bother me, either, but perhaps some workflows require pure quads. I have tools in my main app (Softimage) that can quickly identify and quadrangulate or triangulate the offending culprits. This tech inside 3DC would be awesome. I suspect it'll be appearing in a bunch of apps.

Nice comparisons, I have to say.

  5. The only problem I've had is with it hanging when exporting a mesh that has more than one poly island, plus the occasional hang on export with a single poly island mesh. Other than that, though, it's absolutely fantastic and intuitive and definitely the way forward. For a smooth mesh (the ones I've been testing have lots of hard surfaces, protrusions and nooks and crannies) it's an absolute breeze. Top notch.
