  1. I like this!

I did a model of a long forgotten Marvel character called Deaths Head II (From a Marvel UK Comic similar to 2000AD called OverKill - 1990's) a few years ago (2008) for a GameArtisans Comicon Challenge.

This was when I was first getting in to 3D Sculpting and 3D Coat didn't have voxels. I modeled the character in Wings3D and brought him in to 3D Coat for texturing.

I didn't do him justice as my anatomy skills were not great, I was a noob at humanoid modelling and I was using a severely underpowered Acer Laptop with hardly any Ram.

I am going to re-do him for this challenge. The time frame is brilliant (even for an overworked, easily distracted procrastinator like me), My 3D sculpting skills and understanding of muscular anatomy has gone up several levels since 2008.

I am a little scared of the no symmetry rule but he is pretty asymmetric anyway so it shouldn't be too bad.

    GAME ON!

  2. Just wanted to swing by and say well done to you all.

Once again, I didn't finish but I have created an interesting character which I will continue in another thread.

I don't envy your Job though Ebitz. There were so many good entries.

Some people progressed really well throughout the challenge and showed loads of awesome WIP shots.

I think BeatKitano has to be a front runner though. Such a well executed and detailed sculpt with more WIP than you can shake a stick (or E.T's abnormally long finger) at.

The next challenge host just has to do a Halloween theme. Pretty please. I promise to finish this time. ;-)

  3. Thanks Beat. I will need it.

Its so easy to forget how hard creating beauty is. I will do my best to make her pretty but she may end up pretty ugly! ;-)

Yours is looking so awesome by the way. He (if it is a he) reminds me of one of Ja ja Binks kinsmen but way cooler.

I like the use of colour and mix of flesh and exoskeleton. I imagine he would taste pretty crabby if I tried to eat him.....

  4. I am not sure how I feel about this yet....

It is cool and I am glad 3D Scanning / Printing is coming to the masses. I think it is a bit too cheap though.

A lot of post work will go in to the mesh clean-up and then you have handling, shipping, etc...

I have my scanner and printer coming next year and was hoping to charge more than this. Of course ASDA will not be sculpting additional details and turning people in to Centaurs, Barbarians, etc and I doubt they will turn the output in to retoppoed, animated avatars for games, interactive web 3D and personalized games.

In fact, they probably will not even give the customer the digital file.

    So we are probably safe....

    ... for now.

    ;-)

  5. I am currently backing the Zeepro Zim on Kickstarter.

It has dual heads for printing multiple colours or one colour and a PVA support for ambitious gravity defying prints, an insane printing resolution compared to anything else out there (50 microns per layer) and will only cost me $750 (£462 in my money)

I will have to wait until March next year for it but I think the wait will be worth it. You can even get a cheaper version with one head.

I have been umm-ing and ahh-ing about buying a 3D Printer for ages. Nearly went with something more expensive and nearly went with something much cheaper but in the end the Zim has my money.

I recommend taking a look before pulling the trigger:

  6. Hi Spacepainter,

I have also tried Agisoft Photo Scan and was quite impressed with the results. Not amazed though. Can you show some on sketchfab or give a few pointers?

Neitra 3D appears to remove some of the guess work and waiting around by the looks of it.

I can not tell you for sure until I have a copy but will let you know as soon as I do. I will hopefully be able to report back in the next few days....
