  1. Here's an example of what I'm running into. In the first image, I'm offsetting the Pivot by 100.00 along the Spherical X axis to center the image but the value immediately resets to 0 when I click OK. The preview will remain correct but as soon as I change any other option or simply close the panel, the Pivot will jump back to 0,0,0, resulting in what's shown in the second image.

There doesn't appear to be any way to make the offset stick, although somehow I managed to make it work for one session. I don't know how I did that and I cannot seem to get it to work correctly again.

I checked this on another computer and the problem exists there too.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  2. Hi,

I'm trying to move the Pivot for the Spherical mode in the Materials panel. I can enter a value, see the preview, but as soon as I close the Settings panel, the values get reset to 0,0,0. If I change any other values or toggle Show Preview off and on, that may cause the pivot may reset to 0,0,0 as well. Strangely though, I was able to get my values to stick for one session but I'm not sure how I did it. After I quit and relaunched 3D-Coat, the Pivot went back to resetting itself to 0,0,0 whenever I try to change the values or other settings in the Spherical Settings panel.

Is this a bug or am I missing something obvious? I really need to use this feature right now so thanks for any helpful info.

PS., I'm using Beta 4.0.16, 64-bit Cuda GL on Windows 7.

  3. Thanks! This had been making me nuts for some time now because I've been using undo to remove them, and if I happen to miss one and moved on, it sometimes caused a problem for me later down the line.

As far as I know (and I might be wrong) the instructions for removing the blue dots isn't in the manual--maybe it should be? It should at least be mentioned in the Retopo section or described in the hints for the Points / Faces tool. Just a thought.

  4. Ah! I see: that Move Only Gizmo option is available if I select a model from the Models tab; it does not appear if I select Primitives from the Tools palette. My mistake.

I agree with Phil though, shouldn't this option also be in the Primitives panel?

  5. In most places where the Transform gizmo is used there is a check box for "Move Gizmo Only" but this box is missing in the Primitives tool. It would be really handy to have that.

I know this is an old thread but I was wondering about this right now.

I'm finally getting around to using version 4 and felt I should refresh my 3D-Coat skills this week by trying out everything in manual from front to back. On the page about the Primitives panel (page 43) I see a Move Gizmo Only option in the illustration, but this option seems to be missing on the panel in the program. Is this feature actually missing in the current build (4.0.05) or am I looking at the wrong panel?

Not a big deal really, just curious. Thanks in advance for any info.

  6. I'm running into this problem this week--there must be something about the 3DC TIFF file header that Photoshop does not like because I keep getting the 'Not the right type of document' warning. To be clear, this is for exported displacement maps.

What I've been doing is opening the TIFFs in Fusion and resaving it using ZIP compression. (I'm using Fusion to preserve the high bit depth.) The result is a smaller file size and it opens in Photoshop just fine. Of course, using Fusion as a file conversion program isn't a practical solution for many users so hopefully this problem gets fixed.

In the meantime, does anybody know of a free or cheap image conversion program that will do the above? Just looking for something that users who don't have Fusion can use.

  7. Wow! Awesome update Andrew,

One of the computers I run 3DC on is an HP tm2 Tablet PC, which has been fast enough for many of 3DC's features, but because it lacks CUDA (this tablet has an ATI card) it was never very practical for voxel sculpting. This latest 3DC update seems to have changed that. Voxel sculpting still isn't as fast as on a CUDA enabled desktop system, but I'm thrilled that the sculpting tools are now reasonably fast on my tm2 now and practical to use.

Of course on my workstation, everything is even better now. :)

    Keep up the fantastic work!

  8. Hi,

I've been using 3CC for a while now but I have what seems like a 'newbie' question anyway: How do I reduce existing specularity in a layer? I know there's a command in Adjustments to remove it entirely but I just want to reduce the strength of the effect, not remove it.

Thanks in advance for any helpful info.

    G.

Edit: I figured out a workaround: Export the spec map, reduce the intensity in Photoshop, and then import the altered image to the layer as a spec map. I don't know if this is official way to do this but it works. Still, it would be nice to have layer adjustment controls for spec from within 3DC so I could see the changes interactively. (If this feature exists, please tell!.) :)

  9. Hi,

Some questions about importing LightWave (.lwo) objects with multiple UV maps:

I have an .lwo that came to me with a UV map and color texture applied, but a second optimized UV was created for additional texture maps. When I import the .lwo to 3DC, I can see the two UV maps listed, and the new one seems to work fine. However, if I select the older second UV map, 3DC acts as if the UV isn't applied to the geometry (the geometry vanishes.)

Has anybody else seen this happen? Is this a bug? I don't normally work with objects that have multiple UV maps so it's possible that I'm doing something wrong. If this is the case, any suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

  10. NUM5 is a key on right keyboard, it is key "5" when NumLock is on

    Hi,

I have a question about this. I'm fine with what the 5 key does on my system, but I'm not sure it's what was intended. When I press 5, I get a fully shaded preview of the object I'm working on, including lighting effects. If I press 7, I get the shaded object without lighting effects. At least, that's what I think I'm looking at.

In other words, when I press 5, 3d Brush does not go into Ortho mode. However, it does go into Ortho mode when I select the command directly from the menu.

    Is this correct?

I do like being able to toggle the lighting effect off and on, so I'm not suggesting that this be changed. :)
