  1. As it was described, 2.xx customers have to pay around 100$ for upgrade and less if they will buy after price rising (while price of 3.00 will be around 200$). It you feel some "trap" there please describe how it should be. I can change something if you feel it is not fair.

I don't want someone to be offended, so please tell as you feel. But of couse there is very hard work behind all upgrades. I am working 10-12 hours per day. My family at least must have some compensation :)

Also, I will think about aditional 20$. I can make some time differentiation for upgrade price... 20$ can be removed for 2.10 purchasers. Please tell how do you feel to be fair.

$40 for the upgrade for present owners of 2.10 would be fair. If you had been gradually raising your price over several versions, that's one thing. But you cannot blame people for reacting when you suddenly want to change the full selling price to $200 (correct price?). Or $100 for an upgrade.

Those of us that paid $80 or so a few months or more ago have been supporting you up till now, so to suddenly say that the price of owning 3DC will now be more than double what we paid originally. It's not our fault if you underpriced 3DC in the beginning.

And please do not try and give us the sad story about your long hours and having to support a family. So what? That makes you no better and no worse than the rest of us. We all have to work long hours these days and many of us have families to support.

You can charge what you want-that's your choice. Our choice is to move on and support other products that don't overcharge. If you need more money, either market another software product as well as 3DC or else go work for someone else and work on 3DC part-time.

It's entirely up to you. No hard feelings, it's just business.

BTW-I am sick of talking about this issue and won't be replying to anyone in this thread besides Andrew-depending on his decision.

    Cheers

  2. I'm on a fixed income now so as an owner of Zbrush 3 and 3DC, I have to decide which program to stick with (upgrade). 3DC had such a great price in the beginning I didn't think I would get to this "decision point" so soon, but I guess it was inevitable.

It's the old "what's better, sell 5000 items at $20 or 500 items at $200?

    Well said, jaf. :-)

Since you already have ZBrush, I'd save your money for ZBrush upgrades. Which is what I'm doing with MB1-->MB2 upgrade coming out soon.

  3. As someone who only just bought 2.1 in the past week I am definitely feeling like I have been caught in a trap designed to rip an extra $20 out of my pocket. I don't see anywhere on the front end of the website that the reason for the impending price increase was a new full number version release. I thought it was just currently on special and Sept 15 would be a return to normal pricing. Frankly, if the release of 3 had been made clear I would have waited. So I'm feeling pretty annoyed about that.

And I can quite understand your annoyance.

Look, I realize that English is not Andrew's first language. But when you are dealing and competing in an international market, you must be able to effectively communicate with your users and potential users. No matter how many new features you stuff into a program, it does not look good when you start charging more for upgrades than the original purchase price that many people here got 3DC for-$80 or so. When a dev does that, it just looks like trapping and ripping off the customer.

Glad I bought into Mudbox! ;-)

  4. If you look in the Beta page the price goes a little like this (Price of version3.0 (unknown but around 200) subtract from it the current price of 3d-cout(price 120) = X then add 20$= the price of the upgrade.

So according to your calculations, present 3DC owners will pay $100 ($200-$120=$80+$20=$100 )

And what is that $20 for on the end ?

If that's correct, no thanks, he can keep it.

    YMMV,etc

  5. Does anyone have actual experience successfully importing a detailed and painted model from 3D-Coat into an e-on Vue landscape? If so, any pointers? I have neither program but I have an artistic obsession to populate a vast Vue-like scene with hi-poly count textured/painted people and objects from a program such as 3D-Coat. In the case of another well-known sculpting app and exporting to Vue, there are reports only of Vue crashing all over the place. I was wondering if 3D-Coat would be more suitable.

    Thanks.

Here are the Vue 6 Pro Import/Export formats:

    http://www.e-onsoftware.com/products/vue/v..._studio/?page=6

    Import/Export

    * Static Poser 4, 5 & 6 scene import.

    * Support for Poser 5 & 6 dynamic clothes and hair.

    * Animated Poser 4, 5 & 6 scene import.

    * Compatible with Cornucopia3D cost-effective copy-protected content.

    * NEW! Import options dialog to control imported object position and sizing.

    * NEW! When loading objects, option to automatically drop them to the ground.

    * NEW! 2D Import: BMP, BUM, DEM, GIF, HDR, Jpeg, Pict, PNG, TGA, Tiff.

    * NEW! Vector data import: Postscript and Illustrator up to 3.2.

    * Textured model imports as: 3DS, COB, DEM, DXF, LWO, OBJ, PZ3, PZZ, RAW, SHD.

    * 2D Export: Tiff, TGA, Pict, BMP, GIF, Jpeg, PNG, BUM, DEM.

    * Object exports: Only terrains, with textures.

    * NEW! Animation export: QT MOV, QTVR, AVI, Mpeg 1 & 2, independent frames.

    * Automatic re-importing of externally modified texture maps and 3D objects.

Now just match those with the ones that 3D Coat uses for Import/Export.

  6. Yes, silo is a pretty small (but powerfull) programm. About Houdini, if v9 looks complex to you (and it really complex sw of course) is good you never meet Houdini v8, v9 interface is MUCH more user friendly, v8 and older can be used to scare newbies  If all you need is modeling and texturing there is really no need to learn complex 3d app, silo with 3d coat will do this job as good as any hi-end package. But if you want to rigg & animate, or to make complex vfx - no choice here. you must learn & use some hi-end app like max, maya, xsi, houdiny and a few others.

Thanks for the reply, yukon. It's not that I find Houdini overly complex, just that I recognize that it's going to take some time to get even half competent at using it. So I would also like to have a program that is good but fairly quick to get up to speed on like Silo. I tried Carerra, but didn't care for it. To me, both Houdini and Silo2 just feel right, and painting and detailing in 3D Coat is the icing on the cake. :-)

  7. they work perfectly together for me, throw UVLayout into that mix and you have a real winning combo :)

    Thanks, Roger and Yukon.

I have True Space 7.5, but they just got bought out by Microsoft a while ago for MS Virtual Earth Project. That and the endless delays waiting for an update have made me look around for alternatives. I bought Houdini Apprentice HD, but it's a complex program, and I do like the Silo2 demo.

  8. 3d-Coat or 3DC.

3D brush was too close to ZBrush.

    mike

    Thanks.

Neither name sounds worth remembering IMHO.

3d-Coat sounds like a car paint with lumps in it! Yuck!

Plus '3d' in the name sounds like way too many other products.

And 3DC sounds so generic and plain that it could be the name of a drain cleaner or an air filter for a car!

What about a name that describes what it does, something like Texture Paint?

    Any other ideas?

  9. It seems there is a problem

with adding pin points and Wacom tablets. If I use a mouse it works fine but with a tablet

objects will disappear as soon as I add clicked to add a pin point. I will send the log.txt.

    cheers,

    Matthias

I'm having exactly the same problem using a Wacom Intuos 3 tablet and stylus. This is with a Radeon 1650 Pro with 512 mb ram, Athlon 64 X2 4200.

    Bug report sent.
