  1. What is cell modeling? Id just like the easiest workflow to block out levels fast . Minecraft style workflows are very fast. BSP is somewhat good but they are all restricted to specific game engines. I've been playing star made a lot and have built complex space stations faster than i could in 3ds max... I hope you guys improve the constructor tool to have more advanced options like this.
  2. I'm considering buying 3d coat but trying to find the best level creation workflow. That's what I primarily would use it for.
  3. It always goes wonky when I click and drag. Is there a way to click and drag and like hold a button so it stays on that axis and continues going along straight the direction you started going? Something like holding shift when drawing in Photoshop? Also when i click and drag over a surface i already laid down. It usually doesn't keep putting blocks on top but instead in weird places like below.
  4. Can you explain in a little bit of detail how you make levels in 3d coat? Is there snap to grid in 3d coat. How do you go about blocking out a level, brushes, or primitives. Also how do you factor in scale. I am planning on doing a semi minecraft like game level except non destructable where each cube is 1.2m x 1.2m x 1.2m . I would need exact scale to unity3d how do you go about modeling to a certain scale?
  5. It has 4 different modes Direct X, OpenGL, and Direct X again and OpenGL, but with cuda. I don't know which one i should pick or is the fastest. My system specs are Intel I7 4770 3.4ghz 16 GB ram Nvidia GTX 780
  6. What tools/brushes do you use mostly for blocking out buildings and architecture? I see that the construction tool was added and looks like it would suite creating levels very well, what other brushes/tools are best for creating a 3d map like half life 2 or an world with terrain and buildings? Is there any way to import unity terrain to 3d coat and build a map in 3d coat and then re-export to unity?
  7. Well I am a programmer, I actually started hating 3d modeling a few years ago, I am 28 I when I was a teenager I got into 3ds max and learned that but was never really a good artist, then in 2012 I finally learned how to program, I enjoy that much more. I would get 3d coat for game development but probably would rarely use it. Out of all the modelers it seems to look like the most fun to use which I want because i hate 3d modeling now. I am hoping 3d coat could get me to somewhat enjoy 3d modeling again, but I just think i found my calling as a programmer. So I would only get it cheap. No offense to people who like 3d modeling but I don't like it so much I tend to make my games use flat-shaded art as much as possible because you don't have to uvwmap or texture lol. But for some reason i can make things in minecraft like games and its fun. I think 3d coat has some of that vibe a little bit. I know i cant solo things as a programmer, but for placeholder art I think 3d coat would make it bearable until my solid prototypes are done, then hire real artists. But yeah I don't think i would use 3d coat as much as you artists do or any 3d application. Thus it seems only worthwhile for me to get it on sale.
  8. Has anyone done this? Created a whole level like a hl2 sized map or so inside 3d coat, not piece by piece to import and setup in a game engine seperatly, but all one scene in 3d coat and then export out as a optimized level (fbx or whatever)? http://voxelfarm.com/ - this is specifically for level design its voxel based. Wondering if 3d coat could do basically the same thing with the right workflow.
  9. Will it this year, I'm thinking of saving for it. When it goes on sale what price is full version usually?
  10. Thanks for answering. Does that course go though scupting something or retopologizing something (does something by example). Or does it just explain each part of 3d coat only verbally?
  11. First of all I used to 3d model but dont as much anymore as I got into programming instead, but 3d coat interests me, it looks easier to use then zbrush and its cheaper, I'm just waiting until Christmas until it goes on sale because I've read it goes on sale usually on Christmas. But I need to learn it in the meanwhile using the trial. So far I've though the scattered tutorials are not quite what I've wanted to use to learn 3d coat in and out. I'd rather have a course going through the whole program. Udemy is having a 10$ sale on every course and there are 2 courses on 3d coat on there and was wondering if anyone knows if they are any good, or worth 10$ here are the 2. https://www.udemy.com/introduction-to-3d-coat/?dtcode=3lNwtTD32giT https://www.udemy.com/simple-game-ready-asset-creation-in-3d-coat/ Any thoughts or anyone know of better courses? Thanks CJ.
  12. Is there one? I personally really hate pdf. If there is no html version of the manual. Can anyone recommend a pdf reader that reads more like a website. I really hate adobe reader. Thanks!
  13. Is there any way to use your reference image from what you modeled your voxel from to then go into paint room and paint it directly over the model?
  14. I really must be tripping, about 2 months ago I could have sworn the javis jones complete series was $200. Now its $92. Far better. Also yeah Im blaming you for how fast 3d coat changes which is wrong. But to me it seems like 3d coat is changing less now, and is closer to being "Complete". What I want to do is eventually master 3d coat. I would like to start with modeling images of props on google. Sculpting, and common workflows Retopologizing - Have like no experience with this UVW mapping - Have 0 experience with this. Then the best ways to texture and finish the model I want to do this all in 3d coat.
