cylinder retopo can be done with curve tools. draw one line and some circle cuts. and hit enter

Here's something I copied from this sketch art that I found over at Deviant Art. Everything done with 3DC. The background I found at a free wallpaper websight.

I don't really understand what this means for a hobbyist like myself. Can I somehow use this with 3DC? Or do I need software like 3DSMAX or Maya?

I find these quite usefull. I load them into my stencils and then use the vox layer to get all kinds of neat stuff like in the attachment.
