  1. Thanks will do..looking forward to giving it a spin. I'll do some 3d scans tonight...prolly have questions in the mornig..lol Will
  2. Thanks for all the fast replies. I can indeed print with pore resolution with the Objet printer (on human scale), as I have done this in the past. I own a vflash 3D Printer and it can come very close to that detail. But for this test I will sub-contract out the STL to another company with the Eden Objet printer. I am running Bootcamp and Windows Vista 64 bit, so I should be able to leverage all the ram...so the detail is not a problem. 24 million polys should be plenty to try this..but would'nt the subtract feature in 3d coat take a long time to work on such a hightly dense object..even at say 16 million polys? Again I have the 16 gigs of ram..but how far will that go? My model is not that big in physical size (think like a nose or back of a hand)and as I said I will decimate the mesh before leaving Zbrush, but subtracting this model from say a high resolution voxel cube mesh to get my negative impression, won't that take a long time? I tried to Boolean in Lightwave and it killed the program. Abnranger thanks for the links to the videos, very informative. As I move forward with this I will need to post to resolve any issues I might have along the way..thanks for all the help..a good community here. Will
  3. Hello, I 'm currently a new 3d coat user, looking into using it a new way. Hopefully there are a few skilled users who might be able to answer some of my questions. I'm exploring new ways to accomplish some physical tasks using Zbrush , 3d coat and a 3d printer. I'd like to try and create molds in my 3d printer from 3d Coat voxel meshes and the subtract feature. The molds would be negative impressions of a positive mesh from Zbrush. Watching a few videos on Youtube I have discovered that using voxels you can remove parts of one mesh using another like Boolean subtract tools. 1) Can someone tell me how high of a resolution can you go with voxels in comparison to Zbrushes HD sculpting. And can I subtract one part from another in a high resolution. I am looking at perhaps pores in your skin detail. Is that possible to pick up? I have a Mac Pro with 16 gigs of ram, 8 cores and a Quadro FX 5600. Zbrush now has a great decimation plugin that can bring the poly count way down and leave all the great detail from a HD sculpt. 2) Next question, is 3d coat multithreaded? 3) I have a lot of scan data too and I see a way to input a shell and add thickness a very good tool indeed for printing and saving on material. But I am confused as to why the mesh when converted to voxels is at such a low resolution. How do I create a voxel model with the same resolution as the incoming model? 4) Size size size. When importing a model there is a pop up with something about do you want the model size the same on export. Is that to say that the model can be manipulated on the screen at a different size and then when exported, it will be at the exact size it was imported?. All this very important if you are making molds with two or more interconnecting pieces. I really do appreciate any input, suggestions and Ideas with this project. Thank in advance. Will
