  1. Andrew I was wondering if the report I sent made it through. I sent it with the autoreport feature. for some reason whenever I try to autoretopo something when it goes to load the file it tries to read my DVD Disk Drive and then crashes.

Earlier updates id loaded fine just seems like with the last 2 updates it tries to load from the dvd disk drive even though I selected the file on my Hard Drive.

  2. anyone know why the prog wants to access my dvd drive and not my hard drive when I try autoretopo now? grrr I am needing to retopo this dinosaur for my scene because the polys are inconsistant and cant get it to fine detail good in some areas and 3d coat laughs at me when I try to load my model in. I sent off a bug report before but thought would try again after reinstalling but it still tries to access my disk drive then crashes

  3. BTW this particular one is for a static display. I was trying to model her face to look like Lucy Liu but got frustrated and gave up. I would get her close then screw something up and just start over and so I got a face i was happy with and figure will work on my trying to do portrait sculpting on the side on just a bust for now.

  4. Thanks yes I have her in the standard Leonardo pose thats the one I figure would be best to work retopoing. she is abt 26k poly and I would like to cut that in half or so for animating. I get almost 7 mil polys in zbrush with her right now so I am not too worried abt subd for intricate details. My problem is I always want to have my models with super low polys that could be used for a game if wanted.

I just so new at modeling its hard for me lol im stuck on abt 25 to 28k polys because I can have nice base details without having to do a ton of work but would love to have at least half that but would love to have some 6k poly base models.

  5. Thsnks for the tut abnranger I will see if I can get something working on my model.

Syn7ax my wife says monsters arent supposed to have big dongs haning down rofl. I like it it really gives the sculpt a lot of character.

this is the latest one I need to get retopoed. not sure how hard its gonna be for me with her posed like that and her fists clenched but I am determined to figure this dang thing out lol

  6. sorry wasnt meaning it was perfect but it looks good to me compared to the crap I get. I am just trying to get my 26k figure cut down in poly count and i end up with junk. thats why i said looks good to me because other than a few spots its a pretty equally sized set of polys with a nice flow to them

  7. topo looks great I gave up on trying to figure it out my stuff all looks like crap and cant get a nice clear model to draw on. I dunno if im just confused or too dumb but cant seem to get the hang of it at all ((

But glad its working great for others nice to see things coming together for the prog.

  8. my question is im already importing a 256k poly model thats why im wondering how to increase the poly coult it is when imported so it dont look so crappy

    Joe

Being a greenhorn myself, I would go higher with res and maybe smoothing. The size of the imported object can be increased also (it will hold more voxels, thus a higher resolution in voxels). Seeing details can also be enhanced by experimenting with your lights.

  9. ok thanks

I tried it but the autoretopo ignores my fingers and doesnt topo them and i have a really crappy looking import using dx but when i try open gl i get a crash which might be due to memory as my model is almost 300k and i only have 3 gig ram. really frustrating as it takes me forever to topo something let alone retopo lol it takes me abt 3 weeks to retopo with a nice clean edgeflow and i am just trying to get me a nice clean female basemesh with even quads and good edgeflow so I have a female base. I already have a decent male one, but times limited now i have a new grandbaby to babysit daily

    Proflooney:

All of this takes place within the "wizard" that is initialized when you select "Quadrangulate object" by right clicking on the desired voxel layer in the Voxel Room.

After you define, (or ignore), areas of highest density, you are asked to draw some guide strokes. You can control the density of control points with the "Spline Points Density" slider in the upper right side of the top toolbar. An edge loop can be drawn by dragging from outside the sculpture, across the region of the sculpture you want a set of loops to be applied, all the way to empty space on the other side of the sculpture, then release the mouse button. An edge loop guide has been thus created.

  10. guys I havent had to much time to mess with 3d lately as i been babysitting new grandbaby.

the question I have if i can ever get it working, is ppl say something abt drawing edgeloop guides for autoretopoing.

my question is how do you draw? I cant figure out what tool to use to draw lines for my edgeloops

    Joe

  11. Voxels dont work with open meshes. Voxels are a solid they need a solid closed mesh to fill. It can auto close the holes but I'm sure that could never be entirely perfect.

I merged that mesh into voxels closed it and it worked fine with quadrangulation, proflooney.

ok thanks I will have to read up on how to do what you just did with that voxels thingy and try it. thanks for testing it for me I guess the prob was not the prog but the mesh which is what I wanted to be sure of.

  12. I've never heard of that type of jewelry before, I had to look it up. Yes voxels would be good for this. Especially the Curves tool would be very good for it. Yes it should be done on a separate layer to keep the objects separate. One idea could be too use the Curves tool to lay the design out flat, then use the Wrap tool to bend it around. And yes use File > Export to save it out as a LWO or OBJ. you will even get decimation options when exporting.

You might like to read my tire tread tutorial that is stickied at the top of the tutorials section of the forum. It goes through the wrap tool and exporting.

thanks phil flat then wrap would be very helpful as I assume I can get the pattern all drawn out in say photoshop and bring it in as a pattern to use to make the design. I have never used anything but the retopo tool so I have to read up on voxel sculpting, but it sounded like the tool I was looking for.

  13. proflooney - looks like that's the makehuman model?...couple of things to consider before bringing it into 3DC:

    - you've still got teeth/tongue/mouth-sock, which is probably creating some issues

    - eye holes exist as well (not closed)

    - you'll have to bump up the resolution by sub-dividing the model quite a bit, or you'll lose definition in ears,

    fingers, toes

thanks. it is one i found on the web. there is no mouth interior in it, and I checked it over and the polys dont seem to have any problems with them. might be something with the eye sockets but i thought the prog worked with open mesh so didnt worry about them. I tried a male low even poly model to get a lower poly count and he had open eye sockets.

I dont care about losing some inner ear detail I can redo that. I just want like you said and that is an even poly count over the whole form. I hate when the face has a dense polycount on a semi low poly model as when I sub divide the model for super detailing I cant get the polycount I need because the face maxes out before the rest does.

I tried doing it manually but I have only been modeling for a little over a month and my polying sux I get all kinds of different size polys and they are wavy and all kinds of stuff and i end up have troubkles with it when detailing, thats why i was wanting to autoretopo this gal as I have low p[oly male now want a female and i will be set with 2 real nice base meshes.

  14. Well, post it as a bug report if you haven't already.

I did posted both the crash reports in the error bug forum under titlee of like crash vers 3.10 and put the 11 report there also. I am wanting someone else to try the file I posted a couple posts above in case its just the file. I tried a low poly figure and though i dont know how to do the line thingys yet it didnt crash on me

    Joe

  15. i run the updated version through a file with the same guides (i had to repaint density as it is not saved [this should now get saved with the file ... hint andrew :) ])

the new version of autoreTopo v3.3.12 is following guides much better, yes.

Nice wanna try the file I posted above for me? i keep trying it with every new update but my prog still crashes on me when I try to autotopo it.

  16. Guys I am wanting to make some filigree type wristbands which would be basically made from wire. I have no real idea abt voxel thing other than the rough one I get from the video explaining it. I am thinking that I need to use voxels to make what I need. the other question is would I bring my model in for a base, then add a layer and draw them on another layer? I want them as a seperate part.

the last question is I am assuming once finished I can export them as OBJ files?

    thanks

    Joe

  17. Could you do a video screen capture of it? I am thinking it is an out of memory type crash. I have had a few hangs (where it just takes an indefinite period and appears to go nowhere), but if I keep the default settings and don't apply too many guides, then it usually works OK.

the above report is a screen capture of what I get. not sure what else you needing as theres nothing else to see but the program window in the background. I am attaching the file I am getting this on. its only like 20k polys and seems pretty clean to me so maybe its my model or something else I just want to check all avenues here in case its just the model. maybe someone can test it as I really want to get her down to like 6k polys with even weight over the whole model where right now its faceheavy.

  18. I sorta understand it though I dont understand how to do any of it yet as I keep getting a crash error when I try which I posted a couple days ago. this is the first time in a couple days I was able to get the forum to open so I could see if there were any replies to my report. I attached the obj for the character I need retopoed and wonder if someone could try her with the auto retopo and see if you get a crash too. this will let me know if its in the model or something else. I want to try and get her down from this 20ish k poly count down to abt 5 or 6k. the main thing i am trying to do is put even polys around here instead of a concentrated amount in the face and the rest spread out as it kills me when I try to subdivide further but I have only been modeling for a hair over 3 weeks now and not got the hang of low poly faces.
