  1. Is this possible by now? It seems like it has been fixed in Mantis, but in a different way.

I still can't paint if the middlepoint of the cursor is outside an UV island but that would be necessary for e. g. smoothly chipping away at an alpha border with a big brush.

  2. Imagine two polygon strips, one crossing the other, hovering slightly above it.

I want to paint the lower one without the brush jumping to the higher one when I cross it. I've tried activating "connective picking" but it seems like the picking is evaluated continuously.
What I'd need is for the brush to stay on the same surface for as long as the brush isn't lifted (continuous stroke)

I also tried to lower the depth limit in the stroke mode menu

I'm aware that I can freeze or hide surfaces, but that's not what I'm looking for in this case.

in this way I can only switch an object between voxel and surface mode, but it doesn't solve my problem

Then you are probably using a different button. I mean one of those at the very bottom of the panel. Just hover over them to get a tooltip or simply try what they do, there aren't that many.

  4. Hi pior,

I can reproduce your problem when using your described method, but I can't say if it's a bug or simply me messing up the right order of doing things. But after a while I do find myself trying to paint while still having the pipette activated.

Edit: I don't think that "v" does the same thing because it behaves differently.

  5. I didn't (consciously) experience the second problem (having used only the "v" shortcut so far which I can access quite conveniently with my left hand and which doesn't seem to show the behaviour you describe), but I sure struggle when switching between Photoshop and 3D-Coat as far as color picking is concerned. (Same goes for changing the brush size.)

I also wish that hitting a key the second time wouldn't switch back to the previous tool (An option to activate/deactivate this behavior would be great), since I tend to absentmindedly press the hotkey for e.g. the brush again after a short break.

  6. I'm seeing quite regular hard crashes to desktop (without 3d coat giving a warning or offering to send a bug report) when I'm using the vertex lasso to paint a freeze selection.

Both with the DX and GL Version of the program.

    3D-Coat 4.7.06

    Windows 7 64 bit
    i7-4770K
Geforce GTX 670 4GB (Quite old drivers, so I should update them, I guess, but I'm a bit reluctant to do so when my system has been running smoothly for a long time.)

  7. Any info about the missing "merge" option in  in the Transform/Copy tool?

I'm not sure if I'm seeing consistent behavior with my Photoshop workaround and I had several cases where my document got messed up. (Layers pasted over their respective layers with a "photoshop"-merged copy and no undo-registration - earlier steps where undone, but the paste not.)

And of course it would be super-awesome if we could freely warp the copied elements directly in the Transform/Copy tool.
(Even better if we could store the camera positions of pastes and the warp-mesh, in order to be able to easily apply edits down the road.)

  8. Not sure where this should go.

Smoothing colors works quite nicely for me. It would be great if the same would be true for blending transparency. (Maybe it can be or is treated internally as a black and white mask.)

Or is there a dedicated tool for blending transparency?
If you want to allow for blending colors without affecting transparency, then that should be an option perhaps, but for me it´s something I'd rarely need.

Alternatively smudging could be adjusted similarly to the Photoshop smudge, which can be used to blend, too. That doesn't seem possible in 3d coat. (At least I didn't manage to adjust the brush options accordingly)

  9. Yes, but the selection happens in screen space either way.

    E. g. if I close a spline around the neck, the form of the thus created oval will be projected into the scene, and through the neck (in case of including backfaces) instead of selecting all the geometry on either side of the spline (head or body) which can be optically/ in screen space outside of the closed loop.

  10. Hello,

I'd like to e. g. freeze a head by creating a necklace like marquee/lasso selection around the neck. (doesn't really matter if the head or body is frozen as a result.)

However when I close the shape, the selection/freeze happens in screen space, selecting only a part of the neck. Is there a way to get the behaviour I'm looking for?

P.S. This is in the Paint Room

  11. Hello,

According to the online documentation there should be a "merged" option in the Transform/Copy tool, that would merge all visible layers into the current one. (I activated Copy Visible Layers, which works as intended, copying all visible layers into the respective layers themselves.)

I wonder if this option has been replaced by something else? (Shortcut etc.)

A workaround I found is o send the object to Photoshop via edit, which will merge the layers. (But only if you haven't already applied the current pixels, then it will only send the upmost (or active?) Layer to Photoshop, which might be a bug. At least that was my conclusion, there might be some other reason.)

Also the preview of the copied content (not the actual applied pixels) gets lighter and darker when rotating around the scene, which might be intended to adjust for lighting, but this also happens with a neutral background and flat shading.

And lastly I wanted to know if there is an easy method to freely warp the texture/pixels that are to be applied. (Not just scale/distort - something like the warp grid in Photoshop)
(The Spline Image Tool and the possibility to send a Projection to Photoshop I know)
