  1. Thanks Carlosan for response. There is nothing i could provide an image of that would help here. My question is all about what the word template means how is it used and how do you access/use the template aspect of a material. Ive searched for the word template in 3dcoat via Edit/textures and material Editor. Cannot find any reference to templates hence my question. Could it be that the word template is simply a reference term when an actual real world texture image is used as part of a material eg. brick/tile/concrete/wood etc. If it is then maybe i should be looking for options to do with a materials image were there could be an option to change the image.
  2. Hi all. Im learning 3dcoat. [Latest version]. What exactly is a Template. Is it something you can access within 3dcoat. All i understand at present is that if a material has a template then this allows you to change in some way an original image that,s associated with the template therefore you are able to create your own materials. Thanks if you can provide any usefull comments/advice
  3. Have now resolved my issue with the help of tech support.
  4. When you click om the "File" tab [top left] there is an "Open Recent" drop down list. Is there a way to clear some of the saved files or all of them? Thanks.
  5. Just tried this. Created 2 simple objects in separate layers in Lightwave modeler. UV mapped each object and applied a texture to each object. Then saved these 2 objects as a single file. Loaded this object into 3dcoat and the textures showed automatically in the Paint workspace. Whats puzzeling me now is why don,t other multi objects show in the Paint workspace fully textured as they to have there UV maps and textures.
  6. Thanks. Glad to see that there is an option to import original textures. Did notice the options in Paint room/textures but the list of choices is a bit confusing. I was expecting to see something like "Import textures for imported object" I presume you mean "textures/Import". The list begins with color/Albedo map Layers color External AO etc. To put my question another way. I have a Lightwave car object and it textues [All .jpg] in a folder. [Sometimes the textures are in a separate folder] After i load the car object into 3dcoat which option do i use to load the textures so i can see them realtime on the car. Thanks for any further info.
  7. When you load an object or [multi object] into the 3dcoat window the objects are shown as a whitish color regardless if there are textures with the object. The object parts and textures are viewable from the Paint objects list and Surface list tabs and each separate item can be switched on or off. My question is, Is there an option were you can see the original textures on the imported object?. Thanks for any info.
  8. Thanks. It worked! [I did not think to try either Alt/shift/control keys as more use to drop down menues in other software].
  9. Loaded a Lightwave object [Motorbike/40 surfaces] into the Paint window. All the parts and all surfaces are listed on the lower right panel Under [Tabs] Paint Object and Surface Materials were you can deselect/select items as required. Question. Is there a way to deselect all eg. surfaces items at once as they are all on by default and requires that you manually deselect each surface in order that you can re-select the surface you want to work on. Thanks.
  10. Update. Have now worked out how to apply materials to individual parts/surfaces of an object. Loaded a Lightwave object [Motorbike] into the Paint window. All the car parts and all sufaces are listed on the lower right panel Under [Tabs] Paint Object and Surface Materials were you can deselect/select items as required.
  11. Hi all. Applying a smart material to a single object so far is fine. If i now load a multi part object eg.car with many parts it to is treated as a single object and a smart material is applied all over the car object. Is there a way to select or isolate individual parts eg car body/door/bumpers/lights etc so you can apply material to selected parts. Thanks for any info.
  12. Im a total newbe to 3DCoat which ive only had few days. So far ive just been playing about with features and functions as you do. While trying out Smart Materials i did not see anything to do with snow specifically. Are there any ready made snow materials available either free or otherwise that someone can provide a link to. Ive created a winter landscape scene in my Lightwave programme were there is a snow effect on the mountains and any outcrops with vrtical faces have no snow on them. I could not get the Snow to look really good so i abandoned my project. Hopefully ill be able to restart my project and get the ideal snow effect im after via 3dcoat. Thanks for providing what info you can. PS. If there is a paid for snow3dcpack out there that does everything to do with snow from covering whole landscapes to having a light sprinkling of snow on say a car object then i would take a serious look at it.
  13. Just thought id let you know that i now have all the extras files installed. Decided to install 1 file, in the way you advised, and it showed in the right side panel. So went ahead and installed all the rest. Can now get on with learning the software proper.
  14. Hi again. Subject-free extras again!. Do i understand correctly that when you install any of the free Extras files you select the uncompressed files which end with "3dcpack". eg. 3DC_Brushes_05.3dcpack. As indicated in my first question i had already unzipped all the extras files as one does normally with compressed files. I did not see the extension "3dcpack" attached to any sub folders hence my question. Seems i need not have uncompressed files first and may need to delete all resulting sub folders. Apart from this installation aspect i have to say that im otherwise getting on well with learning the basics of your software and love the results im getting so far especially when i tried some of the Smart Materials eg. Metals on a car object. By pure fluke i happened to of selected the right aspects to make the car object look rusty. The rust effect i saw just blew me away!!. [Result was far better than the rust effect i had achieved with my Lightwave software[Presets]. Yes made up with your software. Ps. When i checked the size of my 3DCoat folder [with extras uncompressed] it was 18.8 GB!! I thought it would be nice if you also provided with your purchase of 3DCoat a free extra Hard Drive to store all the content on.
