  1. Wow!

These new primitives have just massively increased productivity.

Creating everything is now sooooo much quicker.

Faces, bodies, arms, legs, car bonnets, spaceships ......

Surely this must be making 3D Coat even more popular in the overall 3D community.

This is by far the best bit of software I have ever bought. I am just glad I got on the ship early to see how well it has progressed.

    Fantastic Update Andrew.

How many users do we have now, by the way?

    Thank you

  2. Great model mate.

It sorta reminds me of the grim squeaker in the Terry Pratchett Discworld books.

I am having a few issues with a model I am working on at the moment. I have created a sculpt and hollowed it out but I get a non manifold error when uploading.

How did you manage to get your model perfect?

    Thanks in advance.

  3. Hi everyone,

Just thought I would give you a heads up on a fantastic new development in the world of 3D Game Creation.

Unity 3D, a really great, easy to use Game Engine for PC, Mac, Web, Wii and iphone games is now free:

    http://unity3d.com/

You can import obj files created in 3d coat into your games. The indie license can be used for commercial and non-commercial purposes.

Check it out! It almost rocks as much as 3d coat!

  4. Hi Andrew,

    Loving the new tools.

Sorry to be the bearer of more bad news...

I am afraid I am getting a pretty serious out of memory error though. After about 100 uses of the move tool and 10 minutes work, this alpha just crashes. I have tested it a few times while watching the little memory counter in the bottom left corner.

This happens with the DX and GL versions.

With the last alpha I was able to doodle away for hours.

  5. Export for volumetric alpha is not done. When it will be done all customers will be able to export objects. Export function will work until release date of 3.0 and then will be disabled. Purchasing upgrade 2->3 will enable them again. It is usual way. So soon you will be able to export it, just some patience. Now I am squashing bugs that are really annoying to all. Most are squashed already.

Wow Andrew, I can't wait for this.

It feels like christmas is ariving early! :)

  6. I always find a bit of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Lenny Kravitz, The Gorillaz, The Killers or even Queen inspirational when modelling and creating concepts.

Jack Johnson, Eva Cassidy and Nora Jones are pretty good when I am trying to concentrate.

But I am into anything that floats my boat really.

I love all types of music and find you can draw inspiration from light and dark, heavy and soft. :)

  7. Ok, this may be off topic and I am sorry but...

Something has been bugging me quite a bit recently.

Does anyone else find Improv offensive?

I think he/she is completely rude and disrespectful to Andrew, 3D Coat, and anyone who dares to respond to his/her posts, even when people are trying to offer assistance.

If you love Mudbox so frickin much, why don't you just bugger off over to their forums and stop spreading your negativity over here.

Either that, or try to lighten up a bit. You always seem so damn angry.

There is no need for it and I simply can not stand people with such a bad attitude!

Andrew; do not be discouraged by Improv or any other ungrateful penny pinchers. As far as I am concerned, you have given me a great product which is fantastic value for money and many other people here agree with me.

You are conscientious, highly dedicated and fair.

I will pay whatever the upgrade to v3 costs and what’s more, I will be happy to pay because you and your family deserve it. :)

  8. Upgrade to 3.0 will not be free. 2.00 was released almost year ago and since that time we had 10 free updates, every of them was really big.

So, 3.0 is not free especially because of it's neew features. But upgrade will cost

    Price_of_3 - 120 + Add_value

    Add_Value is approx 20$

Price_of_3 will be approximately 180-200 at start point and will grow then.

After 15 of september price will grow slightly, maybe 140-150.

Well, I think that seems very reasonable.

I will definitely be upgrading. :)

  9. Thanks Andrew this is fantastic!

It is great that it also works on my trusty old laptop.

This is just a quick bubble bear, nothing special, I know but it really got me thinking....

Will you be incorporating a system similar to Zsphere's in ZBrush?

It would be great if you could build characters in this way and then have the form smoothed out and connected.

The smoothing tool could do with being way more powerful on the volumetric sculpting side of things.

(Don't worry, I know this is just an alpha and you are just trying to give us a taste of things to come)

If this keeps going so well It could be the only app I need to create game ready models. :)

Here is a quick monster head.

    Well done, you Rock!

  10. I think this volumetric sculpting have big pontential, even in it's early alpha stage it works quite good. For the first time I feel completly free when sculpting in the computer. Great work Andrew this can be a really big thing.

Here's a quick test playing around.

    Cool!

    Where did you get this?

Is this Andrews Cuda / 3d coat demo?

  11. You can use "Keep clusters" to import such models (and set twice mesh/texture resolution). Then use "topological symmerty tool" to keep symmetrical parts equal. During export old uv-s will be used.

I am glad that 3DC is useful for you! Congratulations with successful usage!

Wow, it was working without me even knowing it!

I just exported the texture and it works perfectly on the model, thanks Andrew.

I will be a devout 3D Coater for the forseeable future. :) With all of these fantastic features you keep adding I can't see me ever wanting to use anything else.

I am soooooo looking forward to the volumetric sculpting.

Other features I would love to see are a hair system and the ability to create glow maps with realtime preview within 3d Coat. (for glowing eyes, weapons, fire, etc)

I think other game content guys would love this feature too. Do you think they will be possible in an upcoming release?

    All the best,

    Marc

  12. Hi Andrew,

    Just a quicky really.

Is there any way that 3D Coat can import models with a UV layout like this:

    Pale.jpg

It can be really useful when creating a detailed model when you have a small texture restriction such as 512 by 512.

When ever I have tried to import a model like this, I get display errors.

Thank you very much and congrats on 2.10. It Rocks!

Did you see my latest WIP by the way? It wouldn't have been possible without your program.

  13. Hi Everyone,

I wasn't sure where to post this but thought it was definitely something that would be of interest to Andrew and the whole comunity.

I literally just found out this morning.

Truespace 7.6 is now completely free for a limited time only!

It is a fully featured 3D application for modelling and rendering which also supports normal maps and realtime shaders and used to cost around $500.

    Check it out: http://www.caligari.com/

I recently switched modeling apps from Hexagon back to Wings as Hexagon kept crashing and currently use Carrara 6 as my rendering package and do all my sculpting and detailing in 3D Coat.

I will definitely be trying this one out to see how my 3D Coat creations look in Truespace. :)

  14. From this day forward, the name 'Andrew Shpagin' may only be mentioned in a sentence if followed directly by the words "the Legend".

The latest beta release of 3D Coat is now working perfectly on my trusty old Acer Travelmate 4020, which means that I will now also be able to detail my models in my living room while sitting with my fiancée in front of the telly after work in the evening instead of leaving her all alone while I use my more powerful desktop pc in my office.

She will be very pleased! :)

Very well done Andrew. This is so great! How do you do it?

When will the 2.10 full release be ready, by the way?

I am going to have to request a new hardware code and will probably need to buy a bigger hard drive for the laptop to store all of my wonderful creations.

    Thank you,

    Marc Wakefield

  15. All that methods are optimised for low-poly models. But anyway, it is interesting.

Is there anyway something similar could be incorporated within 3D Coat?

Even if it was just a slightly tweaked version of fill by depth it would still be extremely usefull.

It would really look great when combined with a normal map on a low poly game model.

The only issue I have with the current method is the directional shadows it creates. It looks good but doesn't work too well on realtime models.

    All the best,

    Marc Wakefield
