    Steps to reproduce:

    Choose the cube and subdivide upon import at 2k or 4k resolution plus 4 million or 16 million ( millions of polygons) in the import panel for 3DC's internal use.

    Select a default Smart Material that shows good depth information

    Turn on relief mode under the View window.

    Use the fill tool and the Regular brush to see the error in the displacement map using a smart material.

    Use the airbrush to see the correct displacement applied using a smart material.

  2. Looking for a bit of an 'automated' solution to detect and fill/erode 'overhangs' on models for 3D printing. ie: if the downward-facing angle exceeds 45 degrees, to auto-fill the area until it maintains the correct angle. 

    I'm using it for more artistic purposes, not so much anything industrial. I'd prefer to be able to round over only the downward facing surfaces but retain some more of a nice crisp/sharp edges on the upward facing surfaces. 

    I'm assuming this would be something similar to the fill voids function. If this is an existing feature, could you please point me in the right direction? Thank you!

    Thanks!  Managed to narrow it down further.  Reinstalled the 3dConnexion drivers, issue remains but ONLY when the navigator isn't plugged in, so hah typical!  Can live with it for now, but one for the next 3DCoat update hopefully!

    Thanks for this -- I had no idea what was going on. But yes -- if my space mouse isn't plugged in... viewport performance is insanely slow (1fps) 
    easy enough -- plug it in and everything works great again

  4. Is there anything similar to the Photoshop actions? Or, a way to 'batch' prepare models? 

    I've been doing a lot of CAD model cleanup, and much of it just comes down to me waiting for the computer to finish up its last process, before I can execute the next process.

    I'd love to set up a series of files to auto-execute a series of actions, and it just saves, and then moves on to the next file.

    ie: 

    Feed it five fbx files, and an action set.

    Step 1:  Open .fbx, convert to voxels -- 5 million count

    Step 2: Fill voids, close invisible hulls, 

    Step 3: Autotopo, 20k poly

    Step 4: Bake (with specific settings) 

    Step 6: Export as #.fbx name#_

     

    The software can do this stuff practically flawlessly without me touching anything, my only pain is what a manual process it is to wait. So I was thinking about how I deal with this in Photoshop: Action sets. I want to just set it up to crank these out over night/over a weekend.

  5. Is there any way to fine-tune the 'close invisible hull' settings? 

    It fills areas that are 'not-so-invisible' -- I'd love to crank up the ray-angle and samples. I can see the lines that are made from it ray-casting (I'm going to call it that, but I'm not sure exactly that's what's going on) I'd love to just force it to cast a more high-res sample, as to not fill areas that are really quite visible.

    Fill voids does a great job as long as there isn't some TINY LITTLE hole keeping an internal hull from being removed. Mostly I'm going around and manually repairing tiny holes with the fill tool but they can be easy to miss.
