  1. Any update on this? Whatever I export from Blender, especially when using the AppLink or the FBX format becomes covered in hard edges. Then inside 3DCoat it isn't possible to use the edgeloop selection on any of the hard-edges. It simply only selects a single edge, even if the edge is part of a perfect edgeloop. This makes working with UV's on anything that was exported from blender hell (since I either have to manually select each edge by hand, or use the path tool, but that isn't as convenient as the edgeloop selection).
  2. Sure, I've attached two zip-files to this reply. The first is a simple cube that I added a horizontal edge-loop (slice) to and moved it out a little and marked as sharp. Exporting this using Write Normals causes Blender to create sharp edges basically on every outer-edge. Importing it into 3DCoat’s UV Room, causes the edge-loop to no longer be considered an edge-loop, even when imported with Weld Vertices on. Exporting the object from blender with Write Normals off and Smooth Groups on works, but then there also are no longer any sharp-edge markings (they are also not available when the object is re-imported into Blender, so I’m fairly certain this is a Blender thing). Exporting with Write Normals on and Smooth Groups on, results in exactly the same behavior as just using Write Normals where 3DCoat does not recognized the edge-loop as a selectable edge-loop (it only allows me to select an edge at a time with the edge-loop tool on the edges with a sharp edge marking). The second is a very basic hammer I was using to play around with UV-mapping with 3D Coat and with which I first discovered the issue. The top and bottom of the hammer handle are edge-loops and in Blender I can select them using ALT + Click before the export and after the re-importing the exported file (Write Normals On). In 3DCoat the Edge Loops tool doesn’t recognize them as edge loops after importing (with or without Weld Vertices on), except when the model is exported with Write Normals off but then there are also no sharp edge markings, even if I mark them manually inside of blender. For testing purposes I have marked the top and bottom of the hammer handle as sharp edges. I’ve included the respective blend files in the zip-files as well. Tools used are Blender 2.90.1 and 3DCoat 4.9.65. Export options Blender for OBJ are basically the default settings: “OBJ Groups”, “Apply Modifiers”, “Write Normals”, “Include UVs”, “Write Materials” Where the “Write Normals” has been turned on/off as described. From what I can tell the 3DCloud AppLink also exports from Blender to OBJ using the Write Normals setting on. custom-hard-edge.zip Hammer.zip
  3. I'm currently evaluating 3DCoat. At the moment I'm mainly looking at using it as UV tool to replace Blender's own UV tools with. However whenever I export a model from Blender (either in OBJ or FBX), and import it into 3D Coat the edge loop selection tools (both in UV editor and in the Retopo editor) don't seem to recognize most of the loops as actual loops and simply selects a single edge on the loop instead. After some testing I found that this only appears to happen on the hard-edges that Blender automatically generates when exporting the model. When I import the same exported file into Blender, it does select the edge loops correctly. I've also already tried importing the model into 3D Coat with the merge vertices option on, but this also doesn't resolve the problem. Files exported through the 3DCoat (Blender) AppLink seem to have this same issue. So far the only things that appears to work is exporting an object as OBJ from Blender with Smoothing Groups on and Write Normals off, but this also loses any hard edges I've marked myself. Is this a bug in 3D Coat, or am I perhaps using the wrong workflow to get from Blender to 3DCoat (or do I need to use a specific set of export options)?
