  1. I think we can easily confuse dual card use for renderers and realtime modeling, sculpting work. They work differently, so it might not be nearly as efficient as you would think. Renderers can simply assign buckets or frames, but for sculpting...communicating between 2 cards might actually be slower.

    I'm not sure about that.

Actually the 2nd card is not used (I check the load with nvidia inspector). I try to force the use with CUDA in the Nvidia control panel, but did'nt work.

But we'll see in the future what's happen.

  2. I would like to understand better how 3DCoat can take advantages of more than one CUDA card on the PC. I have actually two GPU (one quadro FX580 for display and one GTX470) one of them not connected to the display and used only for GPGPU computation (octane rendering in my case).

I'm using only CUDA capabilty of the FX580 actually?

    Thanks

    Luca

  3. I have two CUDA video card: Quadro FX580 and Geforce GTX470. The Quadro is attached to the Monitor and the Geforce not, I use it only for GPU rendering (Octane for now). Can 3D Coat use the second card for calculation, or it just technically impossible?

I haven't tried yet the difference between CUDA vs non CUDA and Quadro vs Geforce. Some experience?

  4. All the other packages you quoted does have animation time lines.

What type of plug-in would you need?

Why not just export your Obj with texture maps and enjoy?

Hey man for sure we already do it!

But why not have something similar to the external editor for 2D? Have you tryed it? Don't you find useful? It should be nothing more than an exporter for the camera, the object and the maps....

  5. Well FERMI and GTX300 are based on the same chipsets

But FERMI gonna cost like TESLA (for pros)

And GTX300 gonna cost like GTX200 (for consumers)

But the GTX300 with 1.5gb gonna be twice fast than GTX200 for CUDA

FERMI are just GTX300 with more memory

Kinda like current quadros are just GTX200 with more memory, different drivers, better quality parts

GTX4xx will be the next generation Nvidia grapjhic cards.

    They are rebranding again their old card 8800gtx --> 9800 gtx --> gts 250 --> gts 350.

I'm waiting for Fermi but indeed it's a shame!

  6. I was just thinking about how great if 3dc's UI was just like SIlo

By far they ( nervecenter ) have the best idea & approach = it's minimalist and 100 % customizable !

I hope Andrew will go in this direction :)

I was just thinking about how great if Silo development was just like 3DCoat

By far they ( Pilgway ) have the best support & functionality = it's fast and 100 % customizable !

I hope Nevercenter will go in this direction ;)

    Just a joke.....

  7. The only problem is 3DC is using CUDA for Voxel acceleration. At the moment no ATI cards will be supported. If you can wait until December, NVIDIA will launch a new series of DX11 Cards...

    Rene

Are you sure about December? Actually they are very in late with their card.

I'm in the same situation, I want a new computer before Xmas and probably I'll go with an ATI 5870 waiting for OpenCL.

    But I will prefer Nvidia....

  8. PS - If you don't like to give someone kudos for them giving you a helping hand, or for them creating something awesome or doing great work in 3DC, that is of course your choice.

I normally don't use this system, but today I try to give a negative vote, the first, and the system said that I have already reach my negative quote for today. It's not right! ;-)

    For positive ones work fine.

I respect the opinion of the administrator, but in my opinion it was better to remove it. my two cents.

  9. I want to buy a new computer before the end of the year. Until two week ago I had no doubt about my new video card. Nvidia next generation.

But after the last presentation (one very impressive (ATI), the other just a paper launch with FAKE video card (nvidia)) I was very confused. My choice is pending toward ATI 5870 (I'm not a pro and professional video card are tooooo expensive).

CUDA was a reality in program like 3D Coat, but OpenCL is the future (convergence).

Is there is already a time frame for the porting?

How are ATI driver with 3D Coat (I had always nvidia card and the driver was quite good)?

DirectX 11 tesselletion (hardware in ATI card not in Nvidia) can be used in program like 3D Coat?

    Thanks

    Luca

  10. Hi Andrew, there is a chance to enhance the dowloading speed of 3DCoat?

Now that the community is increased and you make a new alpha every day (you are unbelivable!), it takes with my ADSL almost 40/50 minutes to download. Usually I can download the same MB in less than 5 minutes from any other site.

Don't want to seem disrespectful,it's only a request.

    Thanks in any case,

    Luca

  11. I was inspired by geo_n's penguin to make tutorial - how to use unwrap tool. You can download it there -

    http://207.44.140.6/~dcoat/Tutorials/UnwrapTool.rar

I'm interested in your tutorial but the link seem not work here (time out)!!!

I want to understand how to correct map a mesh with different program (UVmapper, Roadkill, Blender, the demo of Unfold3D and 3DCoat of course), and at least against the "free" software 3DCoat is probably the easier to use. With some little correction can be one of the best.

    Ciao

  12. Thankyou very much for the fixed shaders. :)

Here is a screengrab of the rings problem like you requested. Its just like before; when you zoom in and out these rings grow and shrink over the model.

The graphics card im using is an Nvidia 6800GT

Same Video card and same effects here!

    Btw VERY Nice shaders Akira.
