  1. I will try those 3 steps later on ,ta!

I'm having all sorts of probs at the moment...My Bamboo cant remember how to zoom sometimes. And my smooth wouldnt work for a good part of the day .Im getting really annoyed today. Im trying without beta tools switched on to see if things clear up.

  2. Hi guys,

Here is one that is puzzling me at the moment! Thoughts please...

ok.Im using the latest beta.on vista ultimate...

Current model I am sculpting is 13 mill in surface mode, yesterday it was moving about as fast as you like. So opened it today....then wonderered mmmm, maybe some of my polys are stretched, maybe I should do some "housekeeping" I found a button that said " clean Surface" so I clicked that.......a couple of minutes later my poly count went down to about 11.5 mill.....I thought Great! But alas no,my model barely moves now! When I get close, 2fps!! What gives, any explanation? After spending an hour trying to figure it out and searching the forum I had the bright idea of just going back to yesterdays "save", its as fast as you like again!

So I guess I wont be pressing that button again....what did I do wrong?

  3. I was quizzing this at the start of the year...http://3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=9267&hl=&fromsearch=1 ....there was sort of a solution there, probably the same as BeatKitano suggested.( caches etc ) I've not been using 3dCoat much this summer so I've completely forgot how it works, so I cant suggest anything else!........I wish someone would tell me how to get my 3d "mojo" back!

  4. I remember downloading my first demo of 3dCoat ages ago. It was unusable because for some reason it made my power supply squeak like crazy ? So I had to abort my first inroads into Coat because it was so annoying! I uninstalled and got into Sculptris, which didnt cause any mad squeaking. But I guess by power supply was on its way out. It started to do it whilst on Google Images, and got gradually worse. So in the end I got a new power supply, got 3dcoat ( non squeaky version now) and lived happily ever after!

Tony, put your ear against your computer...it might just be working that little bit harder when it has to "think" more. My processor fan cranks up when the processor is doing a complicated task i, usually with 3dCoat.

  5. "Kitbashing".... For all you young folks, is ( please put me right if you think I an wrong!) from the old days of modelmaking for films or for pleasure. Primarily I think in the post "Star Wars" boom. The model makers used to buy loads of model construction kits. ( generic term for a Brit would be "Airfix kit") usually tank kits,so they could use all the interesting shaped parts to make their spaceships look cool. Star Destroyers, Milleniun Falcon etc.

  6. Got some ref image problem...Ref Image is placed behind model, but as you rotate the scene the ref image covers the model....its always on top of the model, no matter how far into the distance it is put???

ok...got cross.....left it alone and went and watched "Justified" for an hour ( Raylon didnt shoot anyone today!) .....came back and loaded in an old scene, and it worked fine . So I swapped out all the elements and it seems ok. But if I start a new scene it doesnt work, the ref image is always on top?

  7. When I start 3dcoat, the shader it gives me initialy is " Basic Compex Shader" ,the shiny red organic looking one! I then have to change that to a more neutral one .It didnt used to do this, in fact it use to change quite a bit. I have obviously set it to do this, but I cant figure it out! How can I set my "opening" shader to the one I want...if I can?

  8. Er ok,bare with me. When I used to open 3DCoat and select a sphere from the menu that appears mid screen. It had a "clay" type shader ,very similar to the "PicMat-Clay" shader from the Shaders menu....but I think it was slightly different, sort of less shiny? Now I quite liked this one. But if I then chose a new shader from the menu, I could never get the original one back because it didnt seem to be available to choose from the menu! Now, having made a few new shaders based on the simpler one available,I seem to have lost that nice shader forever! So now when I select a sphere it appears as a "Sculptris Grey" one I made.

So I am wondering How do I do a complete "reboot" of my textures?, and get them "factory fresh" . I download each new update which seems to remember all my settings. ( although I think Vers 10 seemed to delete a couple of shaders I had made!?) Do I need to delete something deep within the program file?,then reinstall...

  9. Excellent thoughts people! And thanks for the tips! I did a bit of window shopping and Im not sure I can afford anything beyond the smallest Intuos 5,Im not sure how much bigger than my Bamboo this is,I will investigate further.

Thanks Johnnycore! How did I miss that trick! My tablet seems massive now!! And its the same shape as my monitor.

  10. Hi All,

Currently I am using a Wacom Bamboo and I am quite happy with it . But for no particular reason I have been wondering what it would be like 3DCoating with a larger tablet? Anyone got any thoughts on this?( what do you guys use by the way?)

Also whilst looking at the way I have my screens set up. ( a 24 inch IIyama and a 19 inch 4x3 ratio Azus) I have noticed my widescreen main monitor is not translated this way on my tablet, that is, my pen travels further vertically than horizontally! Obviously it does this to sqweeze in the two screens. Thus making the area even smaller... Ive never really had any bother with this before, but I was just wondering how this would affect ones "muscle memory" if I were to go back to just one widescreen or a larger tablet and have to start moving my arm further because the relative size of the tablet would be increased?

Anyone eccentric millionaires out there got a Cintique( spelling?)?

    ta for listening ^_^

  11. Thanks for that JC...I downloaded it to have a look, but I havent a clue where all those files should go?

I have been having a go at my own shaders but have only managed to apply MetCap style shaders...that is, rendering a sphere Ive made in Carrara and applying it as a texture. This works quite well for eyeballs! although your creatures are always looking right at you!! They make good place holders as I replace them later in Carrara.

If you have Sculptris you can also use the MetCap shaders from there.
