We had the Winter Games Challenge, wich lasted nearly 2 months, but there still was not much action.
Which is quite enough for real Competitions out there (see the Substance "Titans" -Competition, it is also roughly 2 months)
But the rewards are really top notch!!!
IMO thats what someone is willing to spend his/her spare time for.
Personally i think, it would be nice to have short weekends-challenges (speed sculpts, speed painting, speed texturing, speed everything else).
Limiting the required time to aminimum.
I think , the weekends mostly are not loaded with work, unless your'e a freelancer, there is always time for training on some weekends in the year/ month.
Because for those monthly challenges it its hard to keep yourself motivated, maybe because no (physical) rewards in the end. I joined some competitions in the beginning, but lost motivation, even on my self chosen theme ^^
So my suggestion:
Limit the Competition to a single task, allowing also non generalists to join, because in the last challenges there were always more steps to cover. But you maybe have only time to finish a texture, or a model, so you are even not motivated to join:
Examples:
- give them a base face/ Model to sculpt finest, sharp details to.
- give them a model to texture.
- give them a model to retopo/ UVing
- give them a model to render within 3DCoat.
- and so on
I think that would be possible for a weekend project or a week project.

Yeah, nice to see you back and cool sculpt so far

Thanks,
Yeah, i noticed that:
There are some OC Cards (GTX 580) with nearly 400 watt consumption. Thats really insane.
So, if i grab one of these, i think i will stay with a single gpu.
Those Maxwell gpus seem far more efficient in terms of power/noise.

SLI doesn't help on most CG apps. When using a 2nd card for GPU rendering, you don't even have to have a monitor hooked to it. The renderer sees it and you can choose your 2nd card to render while working interactively (first card for display purposes only). But when you are ready to do final frame rendering, you can enable both cards to contribute.
Thanks,
Here is my rig so far,

I will use my current case, plus current hdd as additional drive, and my gtx 460 until i can grab a decent card.
Not decided yet what to do with gpu, though.

Thank you all for hints and tipps.
While a Titan is nice, its out of reach for me, since it will be 2/3 of my budget.
Lol, i just saw on ebay a used rig, with triple SLI Titan Black!!! o-O
How about SLI mode for 3DC, would there be an increase in performance, if i just get another gtx 460, just to bridge the time till some better gpus are available?
(Ah Javis just saw, that you have two in your old workstation, what if they are in combination with an intel"?)
CPU wise i think i will go for i7 4930k, 16GB ram( and upgrade later to 32gb)
-fits the budget, because my boss agree to pay with hardware for my work overtime, "pre-taxed".
-
Thank you very much Jason& Don for your sharing your thoughts on the combination.
I have to admit that i wasnt aware of the gpu issue.
Is the Gtx 580 also better than GTX 780 for 3dCoat?
regarding the cpu, im not sure if the i7 4930 will fit in my budget.
But i will keep an eye on this.

Hi ,
Im about to replace my old pc (AMD Athlon II X4 640 + nVidia GTX 460),
Im currently comparing two pc's
1.) i5-4440 cpu + Nvidia GTX 770
2.) i7-4770 cpu + Nvidia GTX 760
What would your choice on this combinations.
Im mainly using 3DCoat and MODO!
Im mostly interested in getting less laggy brush behaviour on high polycounts
-
Yeah i probably will skip this release, too, since im just bought 701 on new year
and instead invest the money in hardware this time.
Although i was impressed by some features and could use them in my work.
Glad, that the upgrade price is same for each preceeding version, hopefully it will remain so.

Here's the complete list of new features:

hehe, thank you Tony []
The original idea is taken from a poem of Ludwig Renn (in 1959) - „Der Kampf um das eierlegende Wollschwein“
Happy Easter !

that looks definetly great, and you only used voxels there.
and its just your start
Imagine how far you can get with 3dcoat, if you begin using Liveclay and Surfacemode for sculpting, too.

hab nur mal kurz durchgezappt, freue mich aber schon darauf es ganz anzusehen, wenn ich wieder zeit habe.
Mir ist allerdings designtechnisch was aufgefallen. Gabs 'damals' schon Schweißnähte? Vielleicht liege ich aber auch falsch.
Danke sehr für deine Mühen und vorallem Zeit die du für uns opferst.

too bad that they only support apps, i did not own.
Hope there will be someday something for Modo, besides MArvelous Designer (too pricey for me right now)
Looks sweet.

Thanks guys, glad you like it.

Well, the whole structure (minus the cloth) does resemble something left behind by a dog.
lol, indeed, but she thought more of a phallus shape ^^
-
update on last objects, my wife notes, that the former shape of he rock, could be missunderstood.
So with new shape and some training on sharp detailing.

done with cloth tool...
Just discovered a feature, you can tweak the cloth on the fly if you pause your cloth simulation, really awesome.
Didnt polished the clot, yet.
