Multiple Smart Materials on one character?

Hi there. I am creating an astronaut character with multiple materials (suit, visor). I would like to use more than one Smart Material to texture this character. For instance I would like to put a glass material on the helmet, metal material on the armor and so on. Is there a workflow or tutorial out there that helps me set this up? Do I need multiple UV maps? Any help is appreciated.

I would have to know a little more about your project.  Are you importing a model that's already UVed?  If that's the case, just select the brush tool, then select the Smart Material and paint the parts you want, then switch to another Smart Material.  What you're asking seems realllly straight forward.  So, I'm not sure what you're having trouble with.
