Member Lorenz Posted November 30, 2010 Member Report Share Posted November 30, 2010 After I imported an object for ptex painting I would like to have a few reference objects imported to know where I need to paint. How is this done?
Psmith
Lorenz: Prepare a graphic with all the information you need and load it as a Background - found under the "Camera" drop down menu in the Navigation Panel - "Camera/Background/Add background image". Member Lorenz Posted November 30, 2010 Author Member Report Share Posted November 30, 2010 Thanks for the answer, but that still would be a little inconvenient. I want to paint scratches and like to have the object that causes the scratches on its relative place to the object I'm painting on.
Advanced Member Tom K Posted November 30, 2010 Advanced Member Report Share Posted November 30, 2010 So basically, you need to bring more than one object into the paint room. correct? ...and move it around relative to the other object. Member Lorenz Posted November 30, 2010 Author Member Report Share Posted November 30, 2010 Yeah, I can put them together beforehand, but then they're treated as one - with one ptx map. Which wouldn't be that bad, because I could delete the needless objects afterwards, but then I would have to go for a bigger map resolution to cover the needless objects too, or must select and increase the resolution on the object I want to paint till it takes over the whole map. Is there a way without such workarounds? edit: Oh, and no moving around. It's a steady position.
Advanced Member Tom K Posted November 30, 2010 Advanced Member Report Share Posted November 30, 2010 you can add additional objects with file, merge object, then move it around in the sculpt room. Tom
Member Lorenz Posted November 30, 2010 Author Member Report Share Posted November 30, 2010 I'm pretty sure I tested this and the result was, that my other object disappeared.

Member Lorenz Posted November 30, 2010 Author Member Report Share Posted November 30, 2010 Here too - just fine. I have done it through drag and drop from the explorer before... Anyway - thank you!
Advanced Member Tom K Posted November 30, 2010 Advanced Member Report Share Posted November 30, 2010 yeah, I see that the drag and drop method actually gives you a couple of merge options. one adds an object, the other seems to replace it.
