  1. Leigh, I'm curious to know how you're taking your rough sculpt and refining it to something more polished. From my experience to get effective crisp edges and whatnot it almost makes more sense to re-build things that you know the final shape of, either with a more effective use of primitives or retopoing > exporting mesh to max/maya to adjust the shape and add loops/smooth modifiers etc. > re-import and merge back into the scene. That seems kind of ridiculous to me, so maybe you can help shed some light on your methods for me?

  2. Is anyone having problems with brushes in regular voxel mode? The airbrush and the extrude brushes are giving me really strange behaviours. I can't sculpt on the forward facing surfaces, but can on the very furthest away surfaces that start to turn away from the viewport. I tried deleting options.xml in the hopes that it was just something screwed up on my end, but it didn't help.

  3. Thanks BK.

What character were you working on? I was toying around with doing an MMA-ish Terry Bogard, but never really got off the ground with it. Did you make any progress before your wrist problems?

Here's another bit of progress on this

  4. Anyone else working on Dominance War around these parts? I'm not really a 3d guy, but it's been somewhat of a hobby for the last year or so when I get the free time (mostly do illustration/concept/textures fwiw), so I thought it'd be a fun project. Been bouncing back and forth between 3d-coat/Zbrush mostly with a little bit of Max mixed in. Curious to see if anyone else is participating.

  5. Thanks Spiraloid, appreciate you shedding light on that for me. Unfortunately I can't get anything that resembles clean results, no clue why though. Everything I do seems to paint a blob to roughly match the surface of the reference voxel layer.

Love seeing these experiments of yours, truely shows what this program is capable of.

  6. *bump*

I've recently run into this same problem. Upon inspection today I noticed the undo folder was taking up 90gb of space on my hard drive. I'm running most everything on a 256gb solid state drive, but have a 1tb drive I'd like to set up to run as a scratch disk (if that's the correct usage in this scenario?). Can I move that to the other drive by chance?

Andrew, using 8k maps and multiple layers builds up this folder really fast I believe, If I don't open/close 3d-coat frequently it eats up a ton of space on my drive. Perhaps limiting the number of undos would help this problem?

    this is the full path:

  7. but there is still an obstacle, the smooth brush (or alternate shift mode in all brushes). It doesn't feel right, zbrush 4 (and 3.5 I think) have that very fast/almost mecanical, smooth brush, it acts a bit like the flatten brush.

I'm glad you mentioned this Beatkitano. I think the smooth brush behavior in 3dcoat is my biggest obstacle in regards to using 3dcoat for sculpting. It infuriates me quite honestly, it's WAY underpowered even after 1 or 2 +res's and it almost feels like it pushes down into the mesh. Also, using the shift modifier for smoothing should not keep the alpha from whatever tool I have active. I'm not sure how many people feel the same in regards to the smooth tool(s), but it causes me too much grief to consider 3dcoat as a viable sculpting option for me.
