  1. Just testing the Linux RC1 and after creating a sculpt, autopoing it, fixing a couple of mesh issues, then trying to bake it (microvertex), a dialog popped up "Fatal error Out of memory. You should increase the amount of virtual memory in system settings".

I have 64GB of Ram, what's going on?

My system activity states that 3d-coat-64 is using only 361.5MB of system memory and 419.1MB of RSS memory and 59MB of shared memory.

After closing that dialog, I got another stating of instability in the program, but the process seemed to work.

  2. I am constantly pushing on programer to finish it asap.

But there was really serious obstacles, because of using of instruction textureLod in PBR saders the whole GL support was rewritten.

It is work a bit less than making 3dc crossplatform. It is mostly because of OSX (probably OSX makers hate all CG programmers), but both OSX and Linux are supported in similar way, so this problem was really serious.

So, this huge delay is not because we want to save some money but because of real problems. But, we guarantee it will be done.

Please excuse for so big delay.

No worries, just take your time to get it right.

  3. Even the Blender Strokes method would be a start, I don't expect 3DCoat to achieve the same results as zremesher, but it appears that Andrew has moved on to other things and just left Autopo as is, I think Re-topology is incredibly important if you want to get a decent, low poly mesh sculpt with its displacement map out of 3DCoat, this worked much better in previous versions. I just hope Andrew reads this and spends some time in this valuable area of the program.

  4. Don't seem to get the CTD with moving stroke points (yet), but the reason I left it for an hour is that I had other things to do. What I have noticed is that when adding curves, if you click on the mesh you may lay down a curve point without knowing it and they are hard to see, I did this a few times and had all kinds of problems until I saw the points later on and removed them.

  5. Digman, I agree totally, great job Andrew, my ZB is now gathering dust in the corner, the only problem I can now see in 3DCoat is that a lot of knowledge on the program is needed to get good results out of it, a lot of settings don't come set to a position which would suit the new user, it takes many trial and error attempts to get a good result, the surface brushes have evolved to become very user friendly due to the amount of effort which has gone into them, I think more effort should be put into the creation and manipulation of the UV's and the automatic generation of zones for easier baking and removal or reduction of the specular highlights on the zone spheres, this highlight is very annoying.
