  1. Really looking forward to this ! Exporting a 2015 LW model to get it into 3dC, ... then bringing it back in to LW, ... and setting up and monkeying with the surface nodes gets pretty time consuming.
  2. LW 2018 has been working well for me. Would love it if I didn't have to fuss so much with exporting from 3dC though. That is to say, I wish I didn't have to re-apply the textures. It's not the end of the world the way it is now, but it would save a lot of time to have an export to LW 2018 nodes supported in 3dC.
  3. Hi, Now that Lightwave has finally released a new version, is there an export preset from 3dC to LW in our future? Thanks KL
  4. Hi again ... Yeah I ended up trying both of these methods and both work. Doing it as a spherical projection as a mask takes some more effort though. It would be great if there was a shader that applied as a spherical map too though. Thanks for the help!
  5. Hi, I set out to do something that I thought would be pretty simple, but has stumped me instead. I am making a model of Jupiter's moon Europa. I thought I'd project a standard spherical image map onto a voxel sphere and sculpt on top of it to add some details on the surface. But I can't find a way to apply a spherical map in the voxel room. I thought I'd be able to do this with a costume shader, but that doesn't look possible. So I thought I'd do this in the tweak room, but I cant find a way to apply the spherical image in there either. I have also tried importing a model with the map added as a uv from LW. But the sphere comes in with no image. I'm sure this isn't as hard as I've managed to make this. Can some one clue me in on how to apply a spherical map? Thanks Kevin
  6. Ive done this not long ago with no problems. I did have a smoothing issues with one of the last few builds of lightwave though, that went away with the curent build. I dont think the problem had anything to do with 3d coat. Seemed to be a LW thing that has been resolved.
  7. Hi, Yeah I knew it wasn't likely that an android version was in the offing. But I thought id ask. I have given some thought to getting a windows tablet. But the ones that run a full version of windows, are still way too expencive for what you get. Maybe the next generayion of windows tabs will be more practical.
  8. I know this is probably a silly question. But would an android version ever be considered? I wouldn't have ever considered it either untill I bought a samsung galacy note 10.1. The presure sensitive stylus it comes with would make it perfect for sculpting and painting. I've considered getting a windows tablet, but they are almost twice as expensive.
  9. Hi, sorry for the double post, but I think I put this in the wrong area. I'm doing some painting in 3d coat, but I cant find a blend or blur tool. I found the smoothing under the paintbrush thats under the air brush. But its not really blending. I cant imagine there is no real blend or blur. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks! K Lane
  10. Hi, I'm doing some painting in 3d coat, but I cant for the life of me find a blend or blur tool. I found the smoothing under the paintbrush thats under the air brush. But its not really blending. I cant imagine there is no real blend or blur. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks! K Lane
  11. Yeah it would be nice if it did get edited because the updater in the program thinks it's an old version. Not that it's that big a deal though as long as we know it's up to date .
  12. Carlosa, That was it. You rock! I tested it with the beta and the regular version. Those tools show up now. The regular version still thinks that it's 3.7.18f, but at least the new tools are there. Thanks guys!
  13. Ok I'm mystified. I uninstalled and reinstalled. Then I uninstalled again and made sure all the files in the user documents folder where deleted too and then reinstalled. Then I got rid of everything again and installed the beta. Well the beta installed but I don't see those tools. I must be missing something.
  14. Yeah there must be something wrong with my install. I followed the steps both of you laid out and still don't see those tools. I'm going to try a fresh install. I'll let you know what happens.
  15. Hi, Yeah there must be something wrong on my end. I don't even see normal and free extrude where you say you have it. You do mean in the retopo room right? I see ... Transform Delete Clone Subdivide Hide Invert Hidden Unhide
  16. Hi, I think it actually isn't installing the update. I looked for the new extrude tool and it isn't there. Unless I'm looking in the wrong place. I made a cube, did a retopo, chose "select faces", I select some faces and see nothing that says extrude in the menue. So I "think" 9.7.18H hasn't been installed. I'm wondering if I need to uninstall the existing version and do a fresh install of the now one.
  17. I keep downloading 3.7.18H and installing it, but when I start up the software it says I am still running 3.7.18F. I've done this 3 times now. Any suggestions? Thanks Kevin
  18. Hi, Yes the poly count vs my pixel count was exactly the problem. Thanks!! Kevin
  19. Thank you !!! You hit the nail on the head with the number of polygons to pixels. I had mine set way too low. I did think of making my object with MV and then doing image maps from a per-pix. But I was sure I was missing something basic like this. It didn't make since that the MV method would be so limited. Thanks again ! Kevin
  20. Sorry for double posting. I put my question in the new users area, but thought this might not be a totally new user question. So I'm posting here too. Don't worry, I won't make a habit of it. Anyway ... I've been having this problem when I merge my object using microverts, where the images I'm painting with look really low rez in spite of my telling it to make the uv set at 8192 x 8192. If I use that same value and merge using per-pixel, I get a much higher looking rez from the image I'm painting with. I'm sure I'm missing something here. But I'll be darned if I can find it. Can I increase the rez of my uv some how? Or am I merging incorrectly? This is being made for animation, not game content. Thanks again for any help. Kevin

  22. I think I was doing the same thing, and sorry if Im way off here, but at no time in your video did I see you select islands and tell them to be moved into the new UV set. That's what I was doing at least, just yesterday in fact. As soon as I selected the islands I wanted and told them to move into the new uv set, I was fine. I'm at a disadvantage from a lot of you though, that have more experience with 3DC. I never know what might be a problem with the software and what is me just getting something wrong. What I've had to do is just mess around till I got something I liked. Which is fine, except that I would much rather know how to reproduce good results than just be guessing. What's happening now for me, and again, I don't know if it's me or the software, is that I'm getting a lightness difference on either side of my map. The example I'm including shows a section of the tail of my creature. It's very much lighter on one side than the other. But I don't know how or where to change this. Do the light controls in the view port control this or is it someplace else? I seem to be having some other issues with exporting maps too. But I'll save that for another post.
  23. Hi, I get varied results out of the baked occlusion when I merge from retopo to NM (per-pixel). On the same model there are times when the occlusion is very pronounced and other times when it comes out barely noticeable. I'm still fairly new at 3dc so I'm sure I'm missing something. Is there something adjustable that drives the result of the baked occlusion? Thanks! Kevin
