  1. Late congrats Chingchong! Looking forward to the new challange.
  2. Happy new year everyone! Nice finals guys, both are excellent. Love the Lionshead and the detailing of the emblems. I won't be finishing this as animation project has had all of my attention. I will be using the character again later. Best of luck to everyone!
  3. Everyone is making amazing progress. I finally found some time to spend on this, will hopefully get a few hours tomorrow as well.
  4. I've had the bust in surface mode for a while but should I be trying to avoid voxels completely?
  5. Some gorgeous work here again, I like the 2 month format. @Chingchong, I used voxels for the hair, probably add to it in surface mode if I have the time. I look forward to seeing a new pose! Cheers for the link! @Carlosan, looking good! Nice physique and detailing. @Marc, cool character choice, and good start. @Beatkitano, love the gear she's wearing (the details on that alien head ); and a gorgeous face and expression! Pretty much done with the torso; especially since I'll probably be covering it all. Haven't decided on what she'll be wearing yet; but I have until I finish the arms.
  6. Nice progress Chingchong, awesome lions head and I like where you're going with the pose and the mace. @BeatKitano, she's looking epic I'm leaving the face at this point, still more to be done but I need to get a move on to the body and accessories. She has some back-story but no name; I'll post her story once I've more sculpting done. Question; is there a right way of making realistic eyes in 3d Coat? Hair is just a place holder at this point; the muscles tool is very useful and gets decent results really fast. Totally impressed with the software.
  7. Really nice progress Chingchong, love his expression! I'm looking forward to seeing more
  8. Off to a wicked start! Your approach with the dreadlocks makes sense, I went through 2 iterations of them with the predator because I did them too early. I get driver crashes when switching to the render room in windowed mode; but I have a low spec graphics card
  9. Be careful: the resolution of the layer that you merge to will denote the resolution of the final layer. I made that mistake recently and lost a lot of details as I didn't notice until further into the sculpt.
  10. Excellent choice sir I'm still throwing ideas around, kinda want to do something original but I'll see how it progresses. Some great ideas emerging from everyone. Great theme!
  11. I really like the sound of this, and it's great having until 2014 to finish Soooo many options to choose from... Just so I'm clear though, it's ok to develop our own hero/heroine?
  12. Indeed, best of luck to all. I don't envy Ebitz having to chose a winner among the bunch! Thanks Ajz3d, I would kill for your skills, and your speed. I'll finish the predator soon hopefully.
  13. I might be too late, but it was fun, and I'm better prepared for the next contest. I try not to think about the AVP movies I think I'll come back to this when I've got a bit more experience with 3dcoat, but I would love to get it to the point where'd I'd be happy to rig it. Happy enough with it as my first serious go at sculpting and vertex painting. FINAL
  14. Thanks Digiman, I'll go that route, time is not my friend right now!
  15. Thanks for the kind words! Ajz3d, work of art man, love the colour choices; as Beatkitano said, it really brings out all the gorgeous detailing. You've managed to do so much as well in the time given @Beatkitano Never heard of Dachande; but I think my guy has a name now! I had a little narrative in my head for him which was similar to 'Broken Tooths'. Never knew AVP had graphic novels. Might actually sculpt Machiko at some point! This is how far I'd gotten last night. I need to wrap up the sculpting, not 100% happy with it, but its long past time to start painting. Any good tutorials on getting the completed sculpt into the paintroom? Just not sure of the proper/most efficient way to do this.
  16. That's good news! Haven't started painting yet, and still some sculpting to do. He had dreadlocks, but I wasn't happy with them. Re-doing them now. That's looking amazing as it is. Gorgeous detailing
  17. Stunning entries; so much talent... I'm going to be cutting it fine with mine. Is the cut-off midnight Wednesday?
  18. The stuff of nightmares... Really like your style, I look forward to seeing the final piece.
  19. BeatKitano; your profile pic is lookin sweet, you nearly finished? Jarvis; thanks for the tip!
  20. That is one hell of a paint job Carlosan! Small update. Still in voxel room; is there a "right" time to switch to surface mode? And any tips/ideas for tackling this guys dreads would be greatly appreciated!
  21. I really like the character you've done; he looks like he has a soul. The skin looks fantastic and compliments his humanoid appearance. And so fast!
  22. Going to go with a predator. I'll try making him look old, battle-scarred. There's a week left right? I tried a few other original ideas, but wasn't happy with them. The details in the other entries are amazing. Thanks for the vids, they're really helping! And nice final work Malo, looking forward to more finished entries.
  23. WIP Hi Everyone! Completely new to 3D Coat. Great piece of software and community to go with it. Only been doing 3D for a year, so expect questions! Result of my first few hours with the software; I'll probably spend a few more hours later sculpting before I'll know if I want to further with this shape.
