  1. It's been awhile since I've been here but I wanted to share an experiment I did.  It was sort of a speed test to see how fast I could get a head made (modeled/textured, rigged/animated, and rendered).  It's a bit sloppy, but was fun.   Sculpted, retopoed, uv'd, painted in 3D Coat and rigged, animated, rendered in messiah:studio.

    Still:

    And animation test:

  2. Thanks. I did all of that. The second license box just refuses to work. All it does is refresh. As for it not opening, it has to be a screw-up with the registry, as uninstalling and re-installing doesn't help. I get no help from support. They just tell me to log on and try again.

One of the problems sounds like a 64bit version being ran as a basic. The basic version is only 32bit, and a 64bit version won't work on a pro license:

Also, sounds like some of the problems could be like stuff discussed here:

I've not heard anything about a blank license window, that's a new one. Might be worth it to head on over to setuptab, maybe someone can help.

  3. I think that may be the deal breaker for me. Low cost or not, even Blender has 3DConnexion support, as does 3ds Max, Maya, Softimage, C4D, and Lightwave (Layout). I was going to use it as a backup for CAT in 3ds Max (as it has some critical bugs), but I'll just use Character Studio, then.

I've been curious about 3Dconnexion devices, as I've heard good things about them. At a gig I had awhile back the studio had them but they weren't used, if I recall it was because of some problems with getting them to work with linux or somesuch, but I'm not sure. I just remember being excited and then told not to use them, it was a bit puzzling :(

It would really be cool if messiah supported them, though. I hope this is the sort of thing that can also come out of this promotion, lots of new users asking for new features that will only make the software stronger and a more effective tool for all.

Just in case you are interested, here's a brief (and admittedly sloppy) vid of messiah working with 3ds Max via the host connection:

  4. Well technically there are a number of games that use voxels, that's what Andrew worked on before making 3DC. LightWave has had hypervoxels for a decade, and in this video you can see how voxels are used for making fire and smoke in LightWave & C4D using Turbulence Fluid Dynamics.

    http://download.jawset.de/particle_mode_preview/

True, I'd forgotten about hypervoxels, and I now remember reading about certain game engines using voxels. I guess I should say voxel sculpting program, not just voxel program. I'm only aware of these three such programs now.

Also, pardon me if this sounds a bit clueless regarding the technology behind voxels, but I've gotten into the habit of thinking the counterpart to a voxel in the poly world is a polygon, but maybe it would be more accurate to compare a voxel to a vertex/point? Or is this an apples/oranges kind of thing?

  5. Yes, this is a great offer. As a messiah user I've been experimenting with a 3DC<>messiah pipeline and it seems to be working splendidly.

Although it has its roots as a plugin/pipeline program, and still works great as such (especially with lightwave/modo and to some degree 3ds Max as well) it has become more and more a full featured software package, really only lacking modeling/sculpting, which 3DC fills nicely.

I tried the demo, i'm very confused about the interface and the workflow. I can not figure out the simplest things. The video tutorials dont give me much clues. Am i just stuck?

Like much 3d software, messiah can be a bit daunting on first look and does have a different way of going about things. I've found the best way to learn is the online help http://www.eggswhyzed.com/messiah_docs/index.html which has a great start here/introduction section.

  6. Here is an update for the plugin. The original post has been edited to include this new version.

This version works with XP! Thanks to Greg for solving the issue. :drinks:

One thing to note: If you're using the 64bit of Messiah or 3DC, than you must of course be using the 64bit version of the other app (64bit requires 64bit), otherwise you may encounter a few errors. Likewise with 32bit, use 32bit of both apps for a seamless workflow.

I've tested the app on several platforms and it's working great now! Big thanks for the update and the AppLink videos :)

  7. Yes, I just discovered that Microsoft moved some of it's API from Psapi.dll to Kernel32.dll in Windows7

I'm researching how to get a compile that will run on both Windows Versions.

When I get it together can you test on XP 32 & 64 for me?

Thanks for the info Greg. Yes, I'd be happy to test the AppLink out on both XP 32 & 64!

  8. This is awesome Geo! Big thanks to both you and Greg Magick, uhm, I mean Malick ;)

I've tried it on two systems, and there was a bit of a problem with one of them, I believe the AppLink might have an issue with a pre-Vista version of Windows. I don't have access to that machine now, but will post more info tomorrow.

    Other than that... lookin' great!

Here's a bit of an update, when I try to run the AppLink on a system with XP 64 I get this error:

" The procedure entry point EnumProcessModulesEx could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL "

But it seems to work fine on a Windows 7 based machine, and when I did a little bit of research into what this error could be it seems it might be because of the older OS? Not sure, however.

  10. Hi all.

My name is Sandro Borg and I am based in Surrey,United Kingdom.

I'm just getting seriously back into 3d after about an 8 year break, during which time I've been raising my son(my proudest acheivement yet :) )

Now I have some more time on my hands these days,I've rediscovered my passion for 3D modelling and animation.

I spent 5 years before my son was born learning and working with Lightwave.

I've dabbled with Zbrush since, but I'm much happier with 3D Coat's workflow and integration with Lightwave.

My main aim here is to produce models/textures in 3D Coat to be exported to Lightwave for rigging and animation.

I've gotta say I'm having a blast so far :)

I've been impressed and inspired by all the work I've seen on display in this forum, hope I can contribute something to it.

    Cheers.

Hello Sandro, i'm very new here too, but welcome :)

I'm curious about your workflow with 3d-coat/lightwave... are you using 3d-coat as a replacement for modeler, so just going from 3d-coat->Layout? I'm interested in this kind of workflow and find it very exciting because It's a whole new way of working :)

  11. Nilpup, I am very glad to see you over here! Messiah+3D-Coat is one of the best combos really... I love it. I think you're going to like the Messiah<>3DC plugin, Greg is really doing an amazing job with it. It should be done soon, only thing it's really wait on is a bit more testing I believe (on my end) and we'll have her out and ready to roll.

Anywho, I like your test skull. Got any test animations by chance? :)

Hello geothefaust, thanks for the welcome! I've just started, but so far the messiah+3d-coat combo works really well and I'm excited about the plugin.

Glad you like the little skull, I did very small/simple animation, with just the jaw moving up/down, but I'm off on another project that I hope to have an animation test for that I can share soon!

  12. Hello Everyone!

I'm a new 3d-coat user thanks to geothefaust and his posting in the messiah forum :) Although I've been aware of 3d-coat for awhile, I never actually used it before. After a little test to see how it might fit into a pipeline, I must say I'm very impressed. As with any software of depth, there's a lot I don't know yet and will have to figure out, but i managed to make this little skull and rig/pose it in messiah in an evening, and even though there are some problems, i'm off and running ;)

I also hear that there is an applink planned for 3d-coat and messiah, sounds great!

looking forward to learning and contributing....
