  1. I do not have the real answer but have you toyed with Near plane modulator found in viewport tab of preferences in Edit menu? ok Edit>preference>viewport> near modulator, I assume increase the number to allow the camera to come closer without clipping perhaps?
  2. Depends on a lot of points, Becareful of subtracting or bolean operation,t his is the kind of operation I know for a fact bolean is and I assume the same for subtracting that it will break the model however it needs just to achieve the hole you want. This said, it may result in a massive mess of broken surface that may then end up in uneven tri count surfaces per loop. You posted a high resolution model. Can you p[lease post a low poly or low res mesh too please and please, turn Wireframe ON so we can see the low poly. I do not see any issue with the high resolution model but it may require retopo. Are you saying the inside rim line is the join line? The inside rim line is a clear evidence your low polygonal object has a/some loop(s) that are not perfectly aligned and perhaps a/some loop(s) could be deleted. Need the low poly print screen to understand better
  3. Hello, Ok I create a 3D model of a pod racer, granted it is based of Anakin pod racer. It has multiple elements that shape the pod racer as a whole. I modeled it in maya and UV'ed in Maya. My plans are to get those elements to 3D coat , then to substance designer, then back in maya, rig, animate, render a high cage onto a low poly as if it was for games. In 3D coat: 1) I added subdivision and surface count, or, voxel = 20ies million triangles. 2) I added some relief with Alphas 3) Now I want to add some cavities and get some occlusion and some normal maps of that high triangle model. In a previous post, I understood I had to retopo the 23 million tri mesh to get a UV again because UV mode would not display the voxel high resolution model. 3) As a test, I quickly retopo'ed the high model quick and dirty. I unwrapped fast ( it was fun and quick by the way I like 3d coat retopo operations! ) 4) but then a major issue arose and I do not understand what is next, what is the workflow, perhaps I misunderstood 3D coat because I cannot figure a solution on my own or with video tutorials on youtube. What needs to be next? a) I believe I should bring the retopo to UV room so I can have a little better UV with perhaps less seams? But i would be fine as a test if I have to skip somehow, then.... b ) Do I go to paint room to: add cavity, extract normal maps, extract occlusion maps? 3D coat is really cool but the more I dwelve in the past couple of days, the more confused I become Thanks
  4. Thanks a bunch I start to draw some understanding. Retopo was daunting but it is actually fun and so many ways to achieve fast results
  5. Thanks a bunch ballistic. Substance designer and maya need UVs set up. I watched 3d Coat video tuts yesterday on youtube whereas 1 video would tell you that in voxel you paint straight on the model while many other video painting tuts do not show the voxtree for a single second so I had too little info to point a reference and conclusion. i don't particularly like the auto scale per se. It crunches triangles and scales the object down a lot while the video tut importing low poly mesh mentions an object too big or too small will be impacting the resolution versus machine capability. Also the funny thing is that auto scale makes the mesh scale down so much that it seems it disappears. I can see the pivot but scaling up a few time across the entire screen does not show the mesh again I am going to re-import the mesh without voxel and work with surfaces. the mesh itself just needs a few alpha growth/extrude, some ambient, normals, and perhaps cavity that I just found out in a tut last night.
  6. It looks like I have mistaken a workflow in 3D Coat but I cannot pin point what it is in spite of watching a series on tuts. If anyone could tell me what I am doing wrong and what directions to take, ti would be super appreciated
  7. Hello, 1) I modeled an object in Maya. I UV'ed that object in Maya. I exported the object as .obj 2) I imported the object in 3D coat, subdivided a bit to smooth those angles, applied, then added more resolution to the voxel. 3) I am ready to paint. I click on the Paint tab. 3D coat switches to Paint mode but my voxel object disappears. Well, I know there is something there and I click on those UV modes and commands hoping it would reappear somehow but nothing works so far. Do i do something wrong? is my mesh too big or too small for UV? The ideal is here, low poly in maya, high cage in 3d coat. Get some occlusion and normals set in 3D coat. Create substance in designers. import everything in maya 2012. Thanks in advance
  8. Hello, I am in the process to sculpt primitive voxel pipes and tubes to create a library of bent pipes and tubes 1) I found out from 3D coat manual that stroke mode could be a way to go.Let me know if there is another or easier way please... 2) I tried various combination to use Curve Stroke but I am unable to bend anything beside the green spline editing points, change spline type, and ending the spline that sticks to the surface of a sculpted cylinder or tube. 3) I looked on google and youtube but I do not seem to be able to find more info to bend sculpted voxels. Can anyone show me a good link or teach me how to sculpt and bend cylinders and tubes? Those sculpted cylinders and tubes will be then used for retopo later on to model space ships Thanks in advance, Merry Christmas and Happy New year everyone
  9. Hi Carlosan, I would like to but I cannot. Well I think I cannot until Steam updates 3D Coat, it is all automatic I believe
  10. Update: The artifact is more destructive than I thought. 1) I used the cut off tool and got rid off all undesirable bits. 2) I went in the library and deleted the model with the artifact (right click>delete). 3) I thought the model in the library was not facing the the right side so I transformed the voxel by rotting 180 degrees and aligned the object at 0.0.0. 4) I left click/slide the model from the layer to the library. 5) The item in the library shows the model as if I did not clean up and transformed the model.
  11. Thanks Digman, and Thanks Andrew. I am sorry I required your help for such frivolities but I was lost at sea on my own to be honest and I am glad you two were there to help. Workstation case is definitely closed and working as intended and the laptop is definitely usable.
  12. I found out ... thanks to Andrew that I was running 32 bits version of 3D coat and I had to run 64 bits version duhh I ran in 3D coat 64 DX and it works except that Voxel > extrude followed by a CTRL+Z makes 3D coat hang up So I tried other modes of 3D coats and 3D coat 64GL works well too. Although we cannot see it in the image, I was able to extrude few times and CTRL+Z. Though at one point I went into symmetry on X then I lasso a piece of the model while in a weird angle in orthographic mode.... (I had to try and see). Well here is the result... an artifact created from lasso'ing with symmetry, I knew it waslikely to happen but I had to try anyway. Apparently the "artifact" becomes a due part to the model as I saved the model in the library and the artifact followed the model. Now i can use the cut off tool and it works marvelously but then I have to run the camera in all 6 axis to make sure I do not forget a small bit somewhere. 1)Is there a way to make sure I cut off all artifacts bits without using camera and try to cover all possible axis? 2) BY EXAMPLE! I used mask a lot in mudbox to prevent undesirable destruction, is there a similar function in 3D coat voxel? I could not see it per se.
  13. ON MY WORKSTATION: What is the amount of your reported ram and virtual memory on an brand new opened empty scene. The "Free" number is a combination of both system ram and virtual memory. Close 3DC and reopen and what is reported by 3DC. Virtual ram: roughly 17 gigs reported ram: I am not sure about this question but I assume you asked for the ram which is 64 gigs physical Free resource upon opening in 3D coat in 64 GL NON-cuda is roughly 83000 (which was much lower in 64 CUDA which is stupid of me since I use AMD card and free resource then was around 1500!), Also the simple direct x reports 83000 of free resources. Only first choice of mode 3D coat reports 1700. So I have the choice to stick with DirectX and any choice of GL NON-CUDA. So I assume my issue initially on my workstation was the wrong choice of 3D Coat resource use. Case solved on my Workstation, now is the issue with 3D Coat on my laptop which is boggling too on my post just above. P.S: what can I do to add image straight ion the forum's post. I looked for it but so many choices with special BBCodes, I always chose media and CTRRL+V the BBCode from imgur but obviously I did not choose the correct one on either side
  14. Hello Digman, I am still away from my house for the moment. As I mentioned the first time, I have 2 machines. If you do not mind I will switch to the issue on my laptop for the time being. Clarification regarding 3DCoat: I have the steam version, it updates automatically. my laptop has an integrated GPU and RAM nvidia 460M with 4 gigs with latest driver. the laptop also has an Intel HD graphic. I set up the nvidia control panel to use global setting performance so nvidia takes over everything that requires 3D. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- system info -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- nvidia program setting and global setting --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3D Coat before touching anything ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3D Coat lvl 0 voxel ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3D coat lvl 1 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3D coat trying to go lvl 2 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It looks like 3D coat does not read or get windows 10 amount of page file memory well. i do not understand why 3D coat uses Intel HD graphic instead of picking up Nvidia as it should be Any help is welcome. I will attempt your recommendation on my workstation this week when I am back home.
