  1. @gbball -

Hi, and thank you for your reply - So if it's not possible to adjust lighting (ruins sculpting) do I have revert to pre-PBR version or is it possible to load / create somehow material that reacts to light direction like it should. Now it's more like overhead lighting for me, not ideal / usable at all for sculpting.

And I have to question, why would PBR (that is only surface shading model) disable use of directional lighting?

    Thank!

  2. Hi there!

    4.5.36 [beta] (DX64) Win 10 / NVIDIA 960 + Latest driver

long time (months?) since I've tried new betas. Just installed it and tried different materials. Lighting doesn't seem to be adjustable, then again I haven't touched these new materials, but none of there seem to react to light direction. I do LMB + drag over upper right corner "light direction" icon, but only env map seems to rotate.

Are all of there shaders matcap style, or have I missed something, or even worse - forgotten something...

  3. Hi there.

    Testing 4.1.06 -  Having similar issues as Beat;

    1. When I open 3DCoat everything looks OK

    2. File / New

    3. Start screen panel appears, I pick a voxel scene with cube

    *Problems start*

    - Tools bar is in the center of screen

    - When I try to move tools bar to left edge and while holding mouse button down and dragging, I start to see new primitve icons fill the viewport, overlapping each other

    - When I release the mouse and tools bar is sized correctly on the left edge of screen icons vanish

    - Shaders panel which is docked to right edge of viewport on my layout, start to automaticly scale, growing slowly wider and wider slowly (didn't wait what happens)

    - New Primitives UI is visible but icons are floating as transparent icons their centers aligned to the top edge of the viewport

    [EDIT]

I know very little about 3DCoat settings, but I tried Edit / Preferences -> "Restore Windows" and "To Default Settings", then restarted 3DCoat but it didn't help

This seems to happen every time I start 4.1.06.

System: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit, lots of RAM, GeForce GTX 470

  4. Testing 4.0.05H - Thanks for the update!

I haven't had actually time to touch v4 yet nearly at all, but today after installing 4.0.05H had time to doodle a bit.

    First impressions:

+ Artman presets are welcome addition.

    - However, after little while of brushing with Surface mode & LiveClay tools (while going through the list of brushes from top to bottom), it feels like there should be overall add and reduce sliders which would be available all the time, and they would control all the brushes; Whenever I would use a tool which will add detail, it would be controlled by this value/slider - Same would be true for reduction operations. Now tools have default "Detail" values like 0.4, 1.2, 3.0. (not sure if using presets changes these).

EDIT: In general, what I'm after is global control for uniform level of reduction and addition of detail to mesh, now I constantly tap "W" to see wires, to see how much detail brush "added". Also,  each brush could have it's own slider values and additional "override" checkbox to override global values.

  5. Hi there again.

Tested newest beta 8A and B. Posing + masking seems to be still not working as it should.

Tested with default human "Male" character (single object one). 64bit DX version 4beta 8B

    1. Activate pose tool

    2. Set selection mode to "Paint with drawn contour". Ignore backfaces off

    3. Symmetry on

    4. Volume or surface mode on

    5. Mask part of characters arm (left arm) then add to selection with 2-3 selections

    6. Move pose gizmo to shoulder area and pose

Only tiny part of right arm is moved (if symmetry is on) while other parts of selection stay still. If symmetry is off then only part of selected area is moved by pose.

It doesn't seem to be just second or third area of mesh which I add to selection, but something similar.

  6. More notes on posing: Pose gizmo also resets to default orientation when selecting more

Question: Is it possible to prevent annoying popping of gizmo aroung selection volume when selecting more or less from current selection?

How to reproduce: Select arm, move gizmo on place, add or remove from arm selection to fine tune it - gizmo moves. Sometimes this might be desirable but more than often not.

  7. Hi there. Tested newest beta 8. Checked out Pilgway youtube channel new tutorial "3D Coat feature: Pose Tool". Lasso (Paint with drawn contour) select with ignore backfaces off seems like good way to mimic zbrush posing + masking, but seems like it doesn't work properly.

Tested only with default human "Male" character (single object one).

    1. When I downgrade the voxel volume, first time it wasn't possible to lasso select limbs. Selecting limb caused spilling of selection to some arbitrary blocky area next to arm or leg.

    2. Second try. Downgrade to lower res, then setting selection type to lasso and ignore backfaces off, I was able to select a limb at time, but when I touch pose transform gizmo, pose tool restores old selection in addition to new one, making workflow for selection + selection tuning + posing problematic.

How it fails: Select Pose tool, mask head, clear mask, mask arm, select pose transform gizmo, old head selection is selected in addition arm selection.

    3. Seems like "Paint with drawn contour" doesn't work currently, it seems to want to draw a line to transform gizmo previous location every other click or so, every now and them when transforming selection.

  8. Hi there,

    Testing 3.7.02, CUDA version, Windows 7 64-bit

Voxelization of surface mesh undo crash:

    - Created a voxel sculpt

    - Added liveclay details in surface mode

    - ENTER to voxelize surface mesh

    - UNDO, crash, happens each time at least with the model I did

Liveclay detail and posing with Line transpose mode not creating proper selection:

    - Have a voxel sculpt with liveclay(?) detail in surface mode

    - Select pose

    - Select Transpose mode "Line"

    - Paint line

    - Only segments of area get selected / masked + transformed

    - Happened with couple of character like models when drawing Line selection on leg/foot area

  9. Small note and I don't have a clue if this is already mentioned elsewhere:

Version 3.7 / Refresh bug in Material preview spheres:

    - Right click and select "Refresh this" OR "Refresh all"

    - When sphere picture updates, "camera" of preview picture is offset to right, resulting in 1/3 of preview sphere being outside picture frame

    EDIT:

I wouldn't recommend trying "Refresh all" since re-starting 3d-coat doesn't fix preview spheres!

  10. Hi!

    Testing version: 3.5.17

    System: Windows 7 64-bit SP1 / Intel Core i7 Extreme 980X / 12GB RAM / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 / Driver version 266.58

    Voxel sculpting

Noisy blobs emerge when smoothing over certain area while moving brush across it

    - Set smooth to values over 100%, for example 300 or 400 something

    - Set object in voxel mode

    - Set large brush size

    - Smooth using shift while dragging cursor over surface in circles

    - First smoothing goes OK, then when I encounter already smoothed deep cavity, smooth will plot noisy blobs, which will start piling up out of surface

Does not happen with surface mode.

  11. Hi, there!

    Testing version: 3.5.16

    System: Windows 7 64-bit SP1 / Intel Core i7 Extreme 980X / 12GB RAM / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 / Driver version 266.58

Voxel sculpting bug of unwanted dents in mesh:

    1. Sculpt default sphere

    2. Res+

    3. Use a large move brush to shape sphere (size about what you could use for shaping human cranium) in voxel mode

    4. Line like dents appear on bottom half or on opposite side when sculpting on top half of mesh

I think this happened on 3.5.15 too, but not sure about this as I tested 3.5.15 version too little to be sure

  12. Hi, testing 3.5.13

    System: Windows 7 64-bit / Intel Core i7 Extreme 980X / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 / 12GB

    Bugs:

    1. Voxel sculpting - Symmetry plane location shifts when ALT+TABing to other software

    Steps:

    - Create voxel sphere

    - Toggle x symmetry on

    - Sculpt

    - Move cursor away from center of sphere but keep it over voxels

    - ALT+TAB to Opera (for example or at least happens with it) and ALT+TAB back at one go

    - Symmetry plane shifts to cursor location where it was before ALT+TAB, ruining center line aligned painting

    - Happens here every time

    2. Perspective - vanishing point is not aligned to viewport center

    - Perspective should be aligned to visible viewport center, not affected by panels (or at least it looks like that)

    - Perspective center seems to be to right of viewport center with default layout

  13. Hi, testing 3.5.12

    System: Windows 7 64-bit / Intel Core i7 Extreme 980X / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 / 12GB

    Nice:

    - Material palette docking works OK now

Bugs after a few minutes of testing:

    - Default material sphere show broken image

    - Vertical RGB colored stripes across sphere image in material panel

    - However, it's usable and working

    - FOV still alters specular glossiness

    - Tight telephoto FOV, glossy specular

    - Wide-angle FOV, specular is much tighter

    - I think this might happen in older betas too

    - Close and re-open problem. Close a scene containing single voxel volume only, restart

    - 1. can't change material

    - 2. 3dcoat throws an error in few seconds "3dcoat has stopped working", but doesn't quit

    - Work-around: Create new scene and new voxel volume, it's possible to change material, reopen scene

    - In voxel mode, adjust 3dcoat window size

    - "You are attempting to paint over invisible layer. Please enable visibility for this layer or activate another one" floating text on a box is visible when pressing and holding left mouse button down

  14. Hi!

    Some notes about 3.5.08C CUDA DX64 version on Windows7 64bit / Geforce 470 / 260.66 drivers:

    Voxels:

    - Resample. Default settings, make density 0.8 (or something else does not matter)

    - Then undo, then redo

    - Dimensions of voxel volume is decreased, i.e. it gets smaller in the scene

    - This happens in inverse manner when you increase the detail, redo makes voxel volume bigger

    Viewport / panel docking issue:

    - Float shaders panel (or any other I think)

    - Try to dock next to panels on right edge

    - Panel docks, put strange buggy strip is introduced, shows a part of viewport and button

    - Maximize 3D coat window (this fixes it, but doesn't prevent it), shaders panel docks back to right edge as a tab (next to brushes)

    - This worked OK in 3.5 for me. Happens with 260.99 and 258 driver versions in 3.5.06 and 3.5.08
