  1. I know that. I was referring to possibly making different workflow set ups. If I want to use the Voxel sculpting workflow, my interface reflects that. If I want to use the import model, paint, export method the interface reflects THAT.
  2. I've been watching this thread for a while and seeing some good and some not so good ideas. I think some interfaces to look at are Photoshop (discussed), Mudbox (discussed) and Cinema 4D. They are pretty simple and self explanatory. I have not looked at the latest betas for v3 in a very long time, but Voxels are a whole new thing and I don't think abbreviations for new things are a good idea and I see that in some of the designs. Also, I think specific workflows need to be addressed. After you create a voxel sculpt, what's the next step? For displacement painting, you bring in a model, paint (maybe not just displacement) and then what? I think there could be different work spaces for different workflows. Right now, I think it's still a bit confusing where I'm supposed to find things in the interface. I hope someone is working on a manual at the same time. There's LOTS of things that I think need to be explained as to what they are and what their purpose is. And the radial menu thing. What other apps have that? C4D has something similar to Maya's hotbox, so I doubt that's trademarked or anything and people are probably used to that. Although rarely use it. That's my two cents for now... Robert
  3. I've never used a radial menu before. How does that work, exactly? Is it similar to the popup menu in Maya and C4D?
  4. Thanks, Andrew. Between you and Pavel, I think I have my answers! Bob
  5. OK. Trying to get back into 3D Coat again... I have two questions: 1. Should I use the v3 Alpha (which is constantly changing) or v2, which looks like it's pretty much settled. All I will be doing is painting displacement (depth) maps. I'm on Mac OS 10.5 iMac. 2 GB RAM. Don;t know if one version runs better than the other. 2. I have built my model in C4D. How do I bring in two objects that are part of the same model but not connected? For example, I want to "coat" my stegosaurus model which can be seen in this thread: http://www.3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=2108. The body is one mesh and the plates are one mesh. They are not connected, but I'd like to paint on both. Thanks. Bob
  6. Thanks... Yeah, I have played with it. When I first got it I played with it quite a lot. Haven't been in it for a while, though. I'll have to dive back in head first!
  7. Thanks for the info. I usually just use the Depth channel so far. That seems to give me the results I want. Sometimes there is a jump in my strokes (I imagine it would happen when I just paint, too) and it might be where a seam is or some other UV anomaly. Will the Projection Painting work when using the Depth channel or just painting without using a material or image? Thanks... Bob
  8. BodyPaint has a Projection Painting feature which helps you paint over seems or unequal UV areas. Does 3D Coat have anything like that? I haven't been in 3D Coat for a while, so I may have overlooked it. I'd like to be able to sculpt (just displacement, not into volumetric sculpting yet) over seems and uneven UV areas on my model. Thanks...
  9. Thanks! I've loved them since I was a kid (many moons ago) and they are why I got into 3D and animation. UVing the plates right now...
  10. Yes. I have an allosaurus and camarasaurus that have been done for a while. http://www.theiguanaden.com/pages/images.html If I can ever finish off the stego, I'm going to work on a ceratosaurus.
  11. I hope not. I'd like to hear from some C4D users on that.
  12. Yes. UVs are the next step. Didn't want to start until geometry was done. Thanks!
  13. Here are two pics of the last dino model I worked on many moons ago. Lots of things personal and work-wise have delayed me from working on it or most things 3D, but I'd like to get back to it soon. Do you folks think this is ready for sculpting in 3D Coat at this point? It's 2027 polies for the body and each plate is about 56 polies. Modeled in Cinema 4D. Thanks. Any other feedback welcome also.
  14. Andrew... Is there a way to check what version we have installed on our machines? I'm having trouble figuring out if I have the latest build as I download and install then throw away the .dmg that has the version number. I don't see a version number when I Get INfo on the app. Thanks...
  15. Great, thanks, Andrew. Just wanted to make sure I didn't mess anything up!
  16. I mean I trashed 2.10.10 (or whatever the previous version was) and installed 2.10.15.
  17. What happens if I dumped the previous version before installing 2.10.15? I think I usually dump the old version and install the new.
  18. Can the manual updates be in the first post so we don't have to fish through the entire thread to find a later version? And also have them named so we know they are the latest? And if you're going to do .docs as well as PDFs, can they both be updated simultaneously, or just stick to one (preferably PDF)? Thanks..
  19. Well, I only tried it once. I'll have to try again to see if there were other factors involved.
  20. I noticed that the Draw with Pen in the Voxel paint works like the one in Sculpt mode. The longer you press the mouse button, the higher the sculpt becomes. Is there anyway to fix that? I can't imagine anyone wanting that. Also, on my Mac, I brought in the dino sample at 2 million polies, painted one stroke and got an out of memory message. Never got one in version 2.
  21. No. Just using a mouse. Here's a screen shot. The stroke looks blurry, too, for some reason.
  22. When drawing with the Clay tool, the stroke is very "lumpy". I can't seem to get a nice smooth stroke. I've played with all the smooth settings, but they don't fix the problem. Is that just the nature of the clay tool? I'm using the Mac version.
