  1. I agree that extensive smoothing can help get rid of the lumpiness and that sketching with the clay brush is awesome But I don't think its always practical or the fastest way of going about things, at least not for me. So I'm curious if there is any way of mimicking the "detail levels" you find in the sub-d sculpting packages in voxels? Or is can this not be done? Or maybe this isn't needed? I've only used the stepping up levels method of sculpting
  2. Just a quick question, since it seems we're on the topic. I've never sculpted with Voxels before, only in ZB/MB, But I would have thought it would be important to have some way of stepping up and down "resolutions" like in MB/ZB otherwise it seems that it falls victim of the same issues just jumping straight into the highest rez in zb has, the dreaded mesh lumpiness Normal practice in zb/mb is to start with the lowest sub-division and sculpt as much as you can, then go up a level...and so on. Likewise for moveing large chunks of the mesh. drop down to a low res, move things around and then step back up again. How will this will be handled by voxels/3D coat?
  3. Hey not sure if anyone ended up posting a vid of ZB clay tools. This is a quick screen cap showing off some of the brushes in ZB,standard, clay, clay tubes, and standard_DB which is a varient of standard that adds pinch to the stroke, and has a tiny dot with little falloff as its brush alpha. Anyway here it is:) hope it can help. http://screencast.com/t/iGgsvMsqpz
  4. Thanks for the info, that sounds good Kind of how ZB handles it. Would be interesting to hear how it works offline though.
  5. Congrats on the upcoming release Andrew! I'll be buying my copy of 3D coat when it comes out on monday I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, or if its been discussed anywhere else, but how do you plan on handeling the PC/Mac licensing? Any chance of doing it like how Modo and Silo (and probably some others) do it, where you buy a license but can use it on either Mac or PC. Because I have a Desktop PC which i use for most of my work, but also a MPB laptop which i use on the go..it would be cool to be able to use 3DC on both..like i do with silo and modo. Just my two cents
  6. Cool I'm sorry if this is already in there, I'm just watching from the side lines waiting for 2.10 to come out I work in games and some of the assets we have are huge in scale, I've noticed problems in some apps like silo when i try to import massive .obj's Is there an option to scale down and OBJ when you bring it in..and then scale up the mesh you export? So if i brought in a model to retopo, and scaled down the obj by 50% so it handles better in 3dc, then when exporting the retopo mesh (as obj) scale it up by 50% Is such a feature possible? Sorry if its already in there. looking forward to 2.10
  7. Sure lots of apps phone home, but I'm pretty sure they can't just collect any old data they want. I could be wrong but I think a company is not allowed to collect personal info data through the phone home method. If they do then you have to be told at least...but anyway I'm no lawyer Andrew, about modo. Modo gives each user an account on their site, you log in and from there you can access all apps you've bought and download them as often as you want. You also Download the Licensing app..not sure what it does, but its an .exe you run after install and it does some stuf and then modo works hahah. sorry not much help :P I think offline PC's just use the downloaded license exe. They probably count on the fact that most people are connected to the net/a network and if Modo finds another license in use online or in your network it wont start.
  8. Thats great news When i was talking about transparency i meant like this Where the topo is snapping to the sphere, and to make it easier to see the sphere is semi transparent. Is this possible in 3Dcoat. If not, would be a nice addition. Also i think its ok for the app to log into your server when the app is run, so long as its only when 3DC is run, to check if any other copies of the license are being used. Its also very important that no personal information is collected as I'm pretty sure this is Illegal. So it has to be anonymous data. If you're going to be checking into a server at the app startup anyway, why make the customer "uninstall" their license all the time? Why not just allow only one copy of the app to run at a time (per key). Like modo, where i can install it on as many PC's/Mac's as i like. All licensed and legal..but only one will run at a time. So the user could choose which license system suits them, an "activate once" non portable offline license, or a server based "only one 3DC can run but it can be installed on unlimited machines". Perhaps you could use a Log in system with the app? so when 3DC is started you can type in a username/PW and the server then knows that user is using his one license then..and then you log off and can move to another PC..sort of like a forum :P That way maybe you could tie in Net content into the app? Don't even know if this is possible lol, in fact I'm just throwing Ideas out there without really thinking them through heheh
  9. Hi Andrew I've been looking at 3Dcoat's development for a little while now, but the news of retopology has really got me interested as I am looking for a topology solution currently. I also use Silo and love it's new topo tool but it has one big limitation that the surface snapping is only in screen space. This means that if I select a loop on the topology that goes behind the model and cut/or slideand edge then the verts on the back get snapped to the reference mesh close to the screen. So I'm interested if your method will be screen based or if you will have some other sort of method of calculating surface snapping (which would be great ) Also (while i think of it) is it possible to make the mesh your topology is snapping to transparent? just curious. Oh and any ideas when the new version will be available, I can't wait to try it out
