  1. What I derive from your reply as a result is that even if I painstakingly opened up UV's for such an object, I would still en up with these seams that show up not only in the Normal Map layer, but the diffuse and AO layers as well... Not good...

I'm not sure how you derived from Andrew's reply that seams would still show up if you created your UVs manually.

  2. :good:

I Think it would be a lot more logical/intuitive to state that the auto-RETOPO feature should be in the RETOPO room as a MERE TOOL!!!!

I agree. It would seem more logical to have the quadrangulate function in the retopo stage. But I can see Andrew's dilemma of not wanting to convolute the whole process and confuse newbies that just want to quickly quadrangulate their mesh.

Perhaps add the Quadrangulate option to the Retopo menu. And in the quadrangulate options panel show a message telling the user that any frozen areas previously marked in Surface mode will receive more polygons. And that any strokes that have been drawn will be used to guide the quadrangulate process.

This way a user can hit Cancel and go mark their strokes and dense areas or just hit 'Continue' to quadrangulate their mesh.

  3. Since when was i telling Andrew how to run his business? I was simply replying to someone that had the same opinion with my points on why i think multiple developers can be a good thing. By the way i updated my previous post to clarify what i wanted to say, not that you seem the type that would care as it seems you just wanted to start a argument after reading your reply.

I was just giving my opinion of your opinion of the other guys' opinion.

It's all just opinions really. But you're right, it always risks turning into an "argument".

So no more opinions from me...

    ..for now

    ;)

  4. Product sales pay wages, i am just a user of 3DC just like you so it has nothing to do with me. It is just a opinion, probably one that makes sense also and something many company's do so i don't see why you take the attitude towards me really.

I'm sorry if an emoticon of somebody sticking their tongue out offended you. No wait... no I'm not!. :p:

I just don't think Andrew needs us telling him how to take care of his business. :pardon:

  5. Ok. I deleted the 3dc folder and reinstalled and everything works. I'm trying to find the new topology tools that work, is it a change to the quadrangulate button? i'm seeing different menus that what i'm seeing in this screencast. I can't find any other menus... any pointers?

The quadrangulate function and menus have changed since that video was taken. But yes, the new quadrangulate function has replaced the old one and so you just select Quadrangulate from the voxel menu and follow the instructions. Andrew has added a wizard that instructs you what to do.

Note: The steps in the wizard are optional and you're free to just skip them all.

  6. To be honest I dont think 3dCoat needs any more developers, have you seen Andrews speed compared to other developers? It takes them months sometimes to implement the most simplest of things.

He knows the code inside and out, teaching someone else to understand it would take alot of time. More people does not neccessarily equate to faster development.

Totally! He's by far the fastest coder on the planet!

..and he deserves a medal for putting up with us lot! :)

    We love you, Andrew!! :drinks:

  7. Thanks kay_Eva

Guides in mac version don't work at all.

I tested it in all my models, I don't like this topology at all.

In portraits was the worst. I can have excellent retopo in five min working manually though.

The reason that this didn't work here is the holes. I found the weak point? or what? But I need five min to retopo this perfectly using less quads.

The chair is a simple model, so sure, retopo it manually. It's the more complex models that the new quadrngulate function will really help.

Michalis, you're being a little unreasonable. The old quadrangulate function was awful and yet you never ranted on about how poor it was. The new quadrangulate is much better and yet suddenly you've turned into a crazed demanding perfectionist that just isn't going to be happy unless the new quadrangulate function can produce an absolutely perfect mesh.

I think what's really happening is that your frustration with other issues in 3D Coat is making a little crazy and driving you to attack any new features that don't directly address the problems you're having.

Having said all that - I suspect there's a history of Michalis being a pain in the ass on the internet forums. :)

    Black sheep indeed :p:

  8. "Java plugin is not installed. Click here to download plugin"

I guess if a plugin is written in Java then it still needs to ask for permission to download it.

The 3D widget's java code must not be embedded in the actual webpage.

I've never done any web developing (not even HTMAL) and so I'm totally guessing here :)

  9. One good thing about Wirefusion though: No plugins needed as long as the end machine has a Java based browser and most people do. (90%)

You cant do animation in the version I use but for straight browser based 3d object viewing, it is pretty neat.

Well that's odd because I just tried to view your web thingy and I was told I had to download a plugin :)

I'm using Google Chrome and Vista.
