  1. mmm, I don't usually ask for stuff,cos I never know what I want! And I always think I am being cheeky... But....for Christmas I would really like a camera graticule/box in the other rooms as well as in the render room. I tend to work by laying out a shot and just make what I can see,....no point in sculpting the back of something! I have have a preset camera, but that jumps me back to the render room,then I have to jump back to voxel room to adjust...and back again to check.

  2. Having a nightmare at the moment! I've got two objects on two layers....for the life of me I can not center the sym planes. I line one up...go to the other layer and line that one up,then go back to the other layer and now that ones moved. Seems the lock option is for all layers.I wish I could lock individual layers.Ive tried the RMB Global space thingy and the one under it. When I make a new primitive and switch on sym it nowhere near. Im about to swear REALLY loudly.

  3. Its a mystery,I don't pretend to know how any of this stuff works! The pose tool works just fine normally, It just turned to treacle when I checked the Update Retopo button. I wonder if it was because I also had some painted layers on it also.I did cache it as well, but that didnt seem to help.Anyway that was all last week know......its all starting to fade away from my brain. Im just about to start a new model, maybe I will use this simpler model to experiment.Ta for helping though

All the features are identical,apart from what David said.I bought the "educational" version to see if it was a good "fit" for me,and also as I have never earned a bean from my cg stuff I think that counts as "hobby" though last week I could have done with a 4k map! I think I will migrate to the "pro" version in the future,cash permitting.But all you pay is the difference, so you have nothing to lose have you ? Maybe get the "Edu " version...see how you like it first ,then upgrade if you start making a ton of cash!

    ( what is tf2 by the way?)

  5. Cool ships! Once your have your Normals done you can just paint details on with alphas using the bump channel and then a bit of "dry brushing" for a nice bit of battle damage maybe!...I'm like you ,figuring it out as I go....once I've figured it out,I can never remember for the next time and I have to figure it out again....doh!

    ps what is your poly count by the way....just curious.

  6. If you actually move a limb way out of its retopology, it just explodes! I think the snap thing is for sculpting undulations that are on the surface.On another note I found out you can export an FBX obj with painted voxels. I managed to open it in Carrara,but unfortuanatly it does not seem to support vertex colours,which is a pity.Though I think the higher end 3d software does.....which I havent got..... As always there is something blocking my path just to do what I want to do.Now if 3dcoat had a better lighting system...and Hair I would be sorted.

Thanks,I've been trying to re-pose her because I feel she is a little too upright and I wanted to curve the spine a bit so I tried the update retopo option but it was so processor intensive it just wouldnt work.Then I tried bones in Carrara but that was also a disaster.The other option would be to re-sculpt using the pose tool but it took me nearly 2 days to retopo the first time!! Maybe I will have another look at Autopo,and manually do the bits it gets wrong.

  8. Hey Digman, Just came back to report a success! I did exactly what you said..... . The re sample button refused to even appear so I dont know whats going on there?But the Decimate button works great! And they merged in about 4 or 5 minutes...acceptable for a one off action. All my layers are Surface anyway so thats good.This hand merge was just a test, but I think I might leave it cos it looks right.

    Ive not actually finished the sculpts yet, I tend to jump ahead of myself and try processes that I know are coming up so I dont sculpt myself into a corner. no point in spending days doing a wonderful head and hand, then be unable to join them. I find it good to finish the day on "win". Thanks again Digman, I appreciate a bit of brainstorming....

    My teeth are now fine because I do not need to merge them...hooray. But now may main problem is going to be attaching the hands ,Ive just cancelled a merge after 20 minutes....thats a no go really.I wonder if I could cache the two layers to a more manageable size ,merge them, then uncache them........what could possibly go wrong :wacko: By the way, this is not really a serious model, Im just jumping in at the deep end to try and learn things with the help of you good people. I'm having a go at modelling "Meg Mucklebones" the swamp witch from the movie "Legend" I'm a big fan of make up effects artist Rob Bottin.

  10. Thanks Digman...as always. Just to clarify when you say resolution,do you basically the way the meshes look similar to each other and not the actual poly count. example: My head is 11 million, my tooth is 20,000, so if my tooth merges to the head it may,say increase to 100,000 so it looks similar to the head? and not to 11 million to match it? Thanks for your help, I will try and absorb the clone space thing,though sometimes I feel Im not cut out for this lark!

  11. I have a head with separate teeth as children of this head. Can I retopo this as one object without having to merge or move the teeth to the same layer? I had a quick look in the retopo room and it appears I can.

    I have been trying to merge / move the teeth to the head because I thought they had to be together,but I think I have far to many polys for my computer to figure out,I gave up after 10 minutes and this was just 1 tooth! Plus because the teeth are set in a socket, I guess they dont actually need to be merged and will look better anyway?

Its ok ,I have the scene that works,just experimenting on how to make it better.I think Ive got there in the end.Although my smooth stopped working again.....but came back when I " switched it off,and switched it on again"( 3dcoat ,that is) The sculpting is actually feeling a bit better for it all, so perhaps it was worth while in the end....or maybe Im just imagining it.
