Member dbonejones Posted February 14, 2012 Member Report Share Posted February 14, 2012 How do UV unwrap a single mesh when there are multiple meshes on different layers in the retopo room? Everytime I try to do it, it tries to unwrap every mesh on the same map regardless of layer visibility. Help!
Reputable Contributor AbnRanger Posted February 14, 2012 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted February 14, 2012 Do you want all layers on one UV map or do you want to create different sets to put them on? You can create new sets in the drop list box in the upper left hand corner. To the right of it is another drop list box where you can move selected islands to another UV set. Member dbonejones Posted February 15, 2012 Author Member Report Share Posted February 15, 2012 Thank you for your help! I want each retopo layer on a different UV map. So, do I create a separate UV set for each layer and THEN select islands to put on them?
Member dbonejones Posted February 15, 2012 Author Member Report Share Posted February 15, 2012 Got it. Thank you thank you thank you. It's so easy to go crazy trying to figure something out that absolutely MUST be possible.
Reputable Contributor AbnRanger Posted February 15, 2012 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted February 15, 2012 There is a little grid like icon at the bottom of the layer panel. You can click on that to make a fast selection of all poly's on that layer. You can create a UV set for it and then choose that new UV set from the droplist to the right of that. If you move them before all your retopo work is done, you'll only see the mesh for the currently selected UV set. So, If you have one set for the Head, one for the Torso, one for the Arms, and another for the legs, then move each one to their own UV set, you can only see which ever one is currently selected. Skip tp the 5:15 mark to see a little bit of this taking place: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bD0-bZKNrvU&feature=BFa&list=PL603B0C27026099E3&lf=plcp&context=C3d0542bFDOEgsToPDskKx11reZglaWSi7dbXFD_Fe
